The present article focuses on the late medieval decorated Georgian embroidered mitres. This article illustrates that in Georgia in the iconographical programmes of mitres, ritual function and general Christian dogma is shown in a special way. Before the 17 th c. priority was given to figurative images on church vestments. From then onwards, on church embroidered items decorative patterns became dominant and what is more, floral ornaments with its symbolical meaning replaced the figurative representations.
This historiographic essay examines the place of state, nation, and empire in the history of British art, covering the reigns of George II to George IV.
