Background & Objective: Lipoma (a benign tumor composed of adipose tissue) is the most common benign mesenchymal tumors in soft tissue but it is very rare in the parotid gland. Case: We reported a 54 years old man with parotid gland lipoma. Parotid gland lipoma usually originates from the superficial lobe. Superficial parotidectomy has been considered as the choice method of the treatment. Result: lipoma, as a prevalent tumor of the soft tissue, is rarely seen in salivary glands.

Introduction: Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) is an important negative regulator of Tcell responses. The 49AG polymorphism of the CTLA-4 gene may be associated with systemic lupus erythematous (SLE) risk, but the results from previous published studies have been inconsistent. We carried out a meta-analysis search to assess this association more precisely. Methods: A systematic search of six electronic databases (PubMed, Science Direct, OVID, Iran doc, Iran Medex and SID (Scientific Information Database) was performed for relevant articles published between 1978 and 2011. The odds ratio (OR) and its 95% confidence interval (95%CI) were used to assess the strength of the association. We evaluated both fixed and random effect models, depending on the presence of between-study heterogeneity. The data were analyzed using STATA software. Results: A total of 15 independent studies on the CTLA-4 gene 49AG polymorphism and SLE, including 1705 cases and 2299 controls were used in the meta-analysis. No significant association was found between 49AG polymorphism and SLE risk in the overall or subgroup analyses. Conclusion: This meta-analysis showed no significant association between 49AG polymorphism and SLE susceptibility. Large-scale and well-designed case-control studies are suggested.

Coccidian (Apicomplexa: Coccidia) parasites have been reported in almost all groups of vertebrates. These parasites may cause serious ecological and pathological effects to their hosts. Reptiles were found the be the host of the parasites of the genera Schellackia and Lankesterella, as these parasites undergo their entire life cycle in the reptilian body, with an intermediate stage of dormancy in the tissues of a hematophagus transmitter (generally a mite or a mosquito), until the next reptilian host swallows the infected insect. However, very little is known about the prevalence and intensity of these parasites in most of their distribution area, which is the focus of the current study. To do so, the prevalence and intensity of these blood parasites in three species of lizards, including Ophisops elegans, Trapelus lessonae and Eremias monticola from Markazi Province of Iran were investigated. Samples of blood were collected from the caudal vein of 51 lizards of the aforementioned s...

Birjand city Qanat Morphological characteristics Sex ratio Model Introduction: The goal of this study was to investigate in Gammarus parthicus, body length frequency distribution (male, female) and relationship between clutch size and different body parts (head, pereon, pleon). Materials & Methods: Sampling from a Qanat in 2019 was done in Birjand city (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter). Totally, 252 gammaruses were catched. In each sampling, one hour was attempted to catch gammaruses by a hand sieve with one mm mesh size. To measure, a stereo microscope and millimeter paper were used and the samples were photographed. With a petri dish and the plastic talc (placed over the samples) gammaruses were photographed lively. Length was measured from the beginning of the head (Rostrum) to the end of tail (Telson). In addition, head, back and tail length were measured separately. Image-J software was used to analyze the resulted images. Result: The mean total length of males and females gammaruses in four seasons were (Mean± SE) (15.75±1.21) and (12.93±1.43) respectively. Sex ratios differed according to the seasons. The total body length was obtained as a model of the explanatory variables including head length, tail length and season. The most sex ration in spring (1.39) and the lowest one in winter (0.31) were observed respectively. The total body length was obtained as a model of the explanatory variables including head length, tail length and season. The number of eggs (clutch size) per fertilized female was obtained by tearing the bag of eggs. The number of eggs was counted in a sample of gammaruses after 10 days keeping in the climate room. The climate room was used to simulate the reproduction conditions. The number of eggs was obtained as a model of head length and tail length. Conclusion: The report of Gammarus in the east of Iran and the influence of season in life cycle of the Gammarus.

Introduction: Evaluating intravascular volume is an important but complicated matter in management of critically ill patients, especially in children. Although invasive techniques have the ability to accurately estimate the intravascular volume, but they have dangerous side effects. Therefore, the present study was designed with the aim of comparing the diagnostic accuracy of sonographic diameters of inferior vena cava (IVC), aorta, internal jugular vein (IJV), and IVC/aorta ratio in identifying pediatric dehydration in children presented to the emergency department (ED). Methods: The present prospective cross-sectional study was carried out with the aim of determining the diagnostic accuracy of sonographic diameters of IVC, IJV, and aorta, in estimation of dehydration rate for children presented to the ED with mild to moderate dehydration. Their screening performance characteristics, such as area under the ROC curve, sensitivity and specificity, were calculated and used for this...

Zhumeria majdae is the only species of the genus Zhumeria of Lamiaceae family. This bushy species is endemic of Iran (Hormozgan province) and is distributed on very steep slopes of mountains at 525-1430 meters a.s.l. Based on IUCN guidelines, different criteria were used to evaluate the status of this species as follows: extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO), size of population, regeneration, and quality of habitat. According to field studies, Zhumeria majdae occupies an area of 0.11 km 2. According to an analysis by GeoCAT software, the extent of occurrence was 7977 km 2. Based on our results, Zhumeria majdae is defined as a Critically Endangered (CR) species. The monotypic genera contain the species that, if threatened, may disappear forever and their associated genomes will not be found elsewhere in the world. It is highly recommended that appropriate approaches should be taken to prevent the extinction of this species.

This research was aimed to determine the grazing behavior of Tali goat, as the dominant livestock, in the Zaminsang rangelands of Hormozgan province for four years starting from 2006. The indices examined in this study included the time of livestock entry to and exit from rangelands, the daily distance moved by the livestock, the livestock path, maximum and average livestock speed, and the time spent for livestock rest, movement and grazing. To determine the mentioned indices, the GARMIN GPS was used and closed with a special belt behind a threeyear-old goat. The GPS was activated when the livestock exited the barn. Then, at the end of the day, its data were extracted in the Ilwis software. The path of livestock movement was determined by the shepherds. According to the results, significant differences were found for the average speed of livestock in the fourth year, and the movement time and rest time in the fourth and fifth months, while no significant difference was found for other behavioral characteristics of livestock grazing. Moreover, during the study period, 31 to 39 percent of the time the livestock moved in the rangeland was dedicated to grazing.

Background: H. pylori infection is associated with gastritis and marked infiltration of the gastric mucosa by inflammatory cells secreting of several cytokines that contribute to maintain and expand the local inflammation. Different clinical expressions of the infection may reflect different patterns of cytokine expression. Interleukin (IL)-1β, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, IL-17, IL-23, and IL-18 have been reported to be involved in H. pylori-induced gastric mucosal inflammation, but the details and relation to different patterns of inflammation remain unclear. Materials and Methods: Analysis of IL-18 RNA transcripts was performed by real-time PCR. Total RNA was extracted from gastric biopsies of 56 H. pylori-infected patients, 50 H. pylori-negative patients with gastritis, by biozol reagent according to the manufacturer's instructions. CDNA was synthesized from 1 mg of total RNA using First Strand cDNA Synthesis Kit (fermentas) and 3 μL cDNA was amplified by PCR using the 2x ...
