The focus of this study is mainly on Kurdish short story, read from the viewpoint of a literary history. The political course of events in Kurdistan, and the political and social circumstances which followed, have without question strongly influenced the Kurdish short story both in content, style, and language. The Kurdish short story has its origins in the second decade of the twentieth century. Kurdish prose arose in the beginning of the nineteenth century. There are few examples of Kurdish prose from that time; in every case, they are non-literary. Kurdish journalism played a central role in the development of short story. The origin of the art of the Kurdish short story is directly related with Kurdish journalism. And this development cannot be isolated from very conscious attempts to further the Kurdish short story with the help of translations of short stories into Kurdish from other languages – European languages in particular. This essay is an attempt at a study of the development of the Kurdish short story from its origins until the beginning of the first decade in the new century. The products of Kurdish writers of the ex-Soviet Union and Kurdish writers who write in languages other than Kurdish are not included in this study. Keywords: Kurdish literature, Kurdish short story, Kurdish journalism. Contents and forms of Kurdish prose.

Mem u Zin" holds a paramount status in Kurdish literature, celebrated for its profound exploration of love. Authored by the esteemed Kurdish poet and writer Ahmet Khani in the 17th century, this epic masterpiece represents the pinnacle of literary achievement within the Kurdish cultural milieu. By conducting a concise analysis of "Mem u Zin," our aim was to shed light on the underlying factors that contribute to the perceived separation of Kurdish society from perfection. We provided a comprehensive view of the linguistic obstacles encountered by the Kurds in this exploration.
This paper discusses the origins of Ehmedê Xanî's Mem û Zîn in medrese circles, and the gradual evolution of its reception. Initially being read as a mathnawî allegory of earthly and divine love, from around the turn of the twentieth century, it increasingly came to be read as an allegory of the political and societal divisions of the Kurds. Simultaneously, the work was consecrated as the Kurdish national epic, and its author as the Kurdish national poet par excellence.

Based on a textual analysis of the selected works of two writers from Turkey, Mehmed Uzun (1953-2007) and Mehmet Dicle (b.1977), as well as interviews with Kurdish writers and folklore collectors, this study focuses on the links between Kurdish folklore and modern Kurdish literature. Following Gregory Ashcroft's take on heritage, I argue that Kurdish writers' approach to folkloric motives has evolved through the impact of growing literary experience, inspiration from world literature and deepening knowledge of the Kurdish oral tradition. What is more, Kurdish literature can be treated as an example of cultural and language revitalization, whichaccording to Justyna Olkois based on acting in and through the heritage language. Following Doreen Massey's concept of a progressive sense of place, I identify Uzun and Dicle's strategy as linking the local to the universal, suggesting that Kurdish literature should be analyzed within the context of a political geography beyond nationalism.

This article is dedicated to the analysis of Mehmed Uzun’s initial Two novels, Tu (1985) and Mirina Kalekî Rind (1987). It focuses on Mehmed Uzun as a representative of modern Kurdish narrative. When it comes to the concepts of identity distortion in characters and their complicated state of mind, his novels can be a relevant subject matter for interpretation. In light of Mikhail Bakhtin’s theory of polyphony and the scholars who worked in his circle, this article explores the polyphonic aspects of Mehmed Uzun’s two initial novels. Through novelistic discourse analysis, it becomes apparent that the characters suffer from the dormant identity, which is locally given to them in Uzun’s diasporic fiction. Next, the discussion gives further details regarding polyphony and how problematic polyphony can be found in the novels mentioned above. Finally, this article sheds light on the notion of identity formation in the fictional novel and its relationship with the real world during the time the novels were written. It concludes that the entire representation of characters and settings in his novels leads to the production of a realistic novel with the consistent discourse that can be considered an objective view of a specific time in history which is undermined.
