The history of Indian diasporic writing is as old as the diaspora itself. Most of the Indian diaspora now settled in different countries found its inception in the form of indentured labour. The population of diaspora has increased over the years due to increased migration, a shift in global supply chain and technological advancements which together have shrunk the world so much so that the distances have melted and people can always be close to one-another. These things reflect very well in the works of Indian diasporic writers. These writers have taken the world by awe through their works. From Kamala Markandaya to Sunetra Gupta and from V. S. Naipaul to Rohinton Mistry, the Indian diasporic writers have carved out a niche for themselves in the terrain of world literature. They are winning awards and getting worldwide acceptance and acclaim. The themes of these writers involve-nostalgia, loss of identity, loss of culture, reinventing oneself, quest of self, rootlessness, alienation, homeland, amalgamation and assimilation and the other experiences, which come as part of settlement at a new place. Today in the changed scenario the idea of diaspora has got altogether changed. In the present world where there is more tolerance and acceptability, and distances have shrunk, making it a global village, the core themes do not have the poignance and acridness of experience which the early diasporic writers infused their works with in writing about issues and maladies pertaining to the Indian diaspora.

The present study looks into the selected poems by Sujata Bhatt; “Partition”(2000), “A Search for my Tongue” (1988), and “A Different History” (1988),with special reference to Clifford’s ‘Diasporic Consciousness’. It aims at exploring the several different aspects of selected poems by Bhatt, such as family portraits, displacement, language, identity, history and endeavors to confirm these to the theoretical framework of ‘Diasporic Consciousness’ put forth by Clifford (1994). A close reading technique is undertaken in order to analyze the selected poems by Bhatt through the lens of Diasporic Consciousness. Moreover, this close reading method contributes to investigate the reasons behind Bhatt’s employment of the aforementioned concepts in the selected poems. The article follows a qualitative research methodology to inquire the notions of family portraits, dislocation etc. keeping in view Bhatt’s tendency towards diasporic consciousness and its portrayal in her poetry.Hence, this study is an attempt to have a deeper insight into the traumatic experiences of an Indian layman during and after the Partition of Indian subcontinent in 1947. By presenting an account of the diasporic sufferings due to Partition 1947 in selected poems by Bhatt, this study retains its social significance for its universal relevance and validity of the concept of diaspora. It holds its importance in literature because it helps the readers easily comprehend the diasporic hardships of people like Bhatt by relating them to the major political movements in many other countries around the world, that caused their country folks to experience the same dilemma of being diasporas e.g. Afghan, Iranian, and African diasporas.

Diaspora, defined as the "dispersal/separation from ones native land/cul ture/language, physically or metaphorically," is elucidated in this special issue of Comparative Literature Studies on diasporic writings about Asia, synchronically from Japan, India, Turkey to the U.S., and diachronically from eleventh-century Heian Japan through the Third Reich to the twenty first-century world of East and West. Challenging and resisting political, ideological, cultural, and national boundaries, the authors of these articles offer multifarious visions of the Asian diaspora as highlighted in the signifi cance of literature?its translation, reception, performativity, and human ism?on the global map. In short, what connects this wide range of essays is the authors' emphasis on the concept of diaspora as a historic, complex, and continuing phenomenon.

This article has discussed how Bhutanese Nepali diasporic poetry has depicted cultural crises of the community settled in Europe, America and Oceania. Twenty one poems composed by Bhutanese Nepali diasporic poets from 2009 to 2019 have been selected through purposive sampling and their content analysis has been conducted with the focus on their themes. The study has found that the Bhutanese Nepali culture has been in crisis in the diaspora. The community is working to preserve it; but many socio-economic conditions do not favour them. They find problems in celebrating their festivals, eating their food, observing the rituals, using language, wearing traditional Nepali dress, and following their work pattern.
