Solar Energy Trends and Innovations: A Review, 2023
Renewable energy sources, including "biomass, solar, wind, hydropower, and tidal energy," present compelling and environmentally friendly alternatives devoid of carbon dioxide emissions (IEA, 2021). Energy plays a vital role in industrial advancement, with industrial processes consuming a substantial portion, accounting for over 50% of global energy consumption (Sandu et al., 2021) which increases the significance of the study aimed to review the literature related to 'solar energy trends and innovations.' The research findings indicate that several key factors exert substantial influence on the advancement of trends and innovations in the solar energy sector. These factors encompass climate concerns, perceived efficacy, innovative technologies, government incentives and policies, consumer attitudes, awareness levels, information gaps, cost considerations, the interplay of various elements, market segmentation, social influences, and behavioral change. Therefore, it is imperative to intensify efforts in areas such as awareness and education, financial incentives, tailored approaches, innovative solutions, government policy implementation, social influence strategies, behavior modification initiatives, addressing information gaps, and conducting comprehensive cost-benefit analyses to further promote progress in the field of solar energy.
Modern societies require an ever-increasing amount of energy resources, adding strain to the world economy and creating technological, as well as socio-political, challenges.

Buildings are a significant energy consumption point since they account for 40% of the total energy demand and around 1/3 of greenhouse gas emissions. Energy-saving measures applied in the residential sector have led to a reduction in energy consumption during the last decade. On the contrary, such measures have not been widely applied in school buildings, although education is the second-largest energy consumer in the service sector. This paper aims to assess school principals' perceptions concerning energy saving and the environment since they are responsible for promoting energy-saving measures and investments and inspiring students and school personnel towards environmentally friendly behavior. Using survey data from Greek schools, we applied predictive classification models to locate the most critical variables that drive principals' perceptions of energy upgrading and energy-saving actions at school. Results revealed that the positive environmental perceptions of princ...
Nigeria's climate has been changing, evident in: increases in temperature; variable rainfall; rise in sea level and flooding; drought and desertification; land degradation; heat wave and more frequent extreme weather events. Its effects are mainly caused by excessive emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere from various sources. Owing to these unhealthy activities of man in his environment, the most widely accepted climate change scenarios predict increases of between 1 and 3.5°C for the global annual average temperatures. These effects have largely impacted the tropical monsoon climate, the climatic zone where Owerri, the capital city of Imo state lies. To ascertain the position of this work, this research studies the variables of climate change in Owerri, and quantitatively analyses primary data collected from respondents residing in Imo state using statistical models. The research findings were based on a survey carried out on the selected residents in Owerri to measure their energy utilization in responding to thermal changes in their environment which is a result of changes in temperature, humidity, and precipitation of the study area from 1979 to 2021. Previous research findings on this study area have revealed that much has not been done in promoting energy efficient designs to ensure a healthy living condition of users in building spaces owing to deficiency in a detailed study on the impact of climate change on energy utilization in residential buildings in Owerri. The results from this research are geared towards proposing adaptive strategies and system upgrade solutions to address energy utilization issues in residential buildings emanating from climate change.
Abstract— Solar power is a significant renewable energy resource to petrol-based alternatives and theoretically the most inexhaustible, clean and abundant one in the world. The energy from sun snatched by the Earth is approximately 1.8×1011 MW, which is many times bigger than the existing rate of all the energy expenditure. Photovoltaic conversion is one of the best ways to harness the solar energy with the decreased management and operating costs, though still very expensive, due to the nonexistence of moving devices. At the photovoltaic system project, the initial setup cost is very high and the cost of solar panels is about 40-50% of total system costs. There have been numerous efforts by researchers worldwide cooperating to reduce costs of photovoltaic panels, efficient novel products and to improve their energy efficiency and procreate innovative practices based on photovoltaic system design technology. In this study, photovoltaic panel evaluation approach is applied, which covers mechanical, electrical, environmental, economic, and customer-related criteria. And then, the comparative assessment of diverse photovoltaic panel brands is performed by using the AHP (The Analytical Hierarchy Process) approach. Among chosen popular brands for 240W, the most convenient photovoltaic panel choice is made by evaluating comparatively. The data is obtained from the popular photovoltaic panel datasheet.
This work quantifies the evolution in the implementation and development of renewable energies in Colombia, as well as evidence the current challenges and development prospects. The high demand for electricity in Colombia is increasing due to the great increase in population, industry and commerce, which generates greater energy consumption and as a consequence economic, social and environmental problems. The objective of this study was to analyze the behavior of the energy projects submitted to the Mining Energy Planning Group (UPME) during the last 15 years until July 2022, as well as to study the research areas with the highest performance. Technology and the corresponding radiation intensity in addition, it shows an historic information about the projects presented both not in force as of the date of closing of this investigation, classified according to their source, according to their range of power and according to its stage of implementation, finally, we made a synthesis of the new regulations governing the motivation and implementation of projects with renewable energy sources, being as this work a very good source of reference for further studies of the implementation of renewable energy sources in Colombia.

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy. The total amount of economically extractable power available from the wind is considerably more than present human power use from all sources. Since wind speed is not constant, a wind farm's annual energy production is never as much as the sum of the generator nameplate ratings multiplied by the total hours in a year.

A proposed hybrid system based on diesel generator and solar photovoltaic (PV) as an effective option to power Mkpok Housing estate in Eket has been presented in this work. Running diesel generator constantly in the estate due to epileptic electricity supply from Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) is very expensive and not eco-friendly. The main objective of this proposed system is optimal design of a solar PV powered supply system to produce sustainable power and reduce or augment the use of continual diesel generator sets, resulting in reduced cost of operation, maintenance and pollutant emissions. Solar radiation data was obtained from meteorology station, analysis, proper sizing and specification of the PV system and battery bank were done based on this information. The hourly solar radiation, calculated values were considered, and used as input of the Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable (HOMER) software to analyze the system. In addition, a comparative study was carried out considering two scenarios of the proposed model system. In the first scenario, the diesel generation, solar PV system was treated as autonomous (or standalone). In the second scenario, the proposed model system was connected to the grid system. It is found that electrifying the housing estate using the proposed hybrid system is very beneficial and competitive with other types of conventional sources due to the fact that it decreases both operating costs and pollutants emissions. Also, results from the HOMER software are realistic and give promising results for on-grid schemes.

Renewable sources of energy like solar, geothermal, wind, tidal energy etc. are primarily used for sustainable development. They also have unavoidable limitations like weather conditions, installation cost and so on. Sewage waste is an untouched source, which might yield power by overcoming t he characteristic drawbacks of different renewable energy sources. A resolution is being developed to tap these unobserved and untapped wastes as an energy resource. Based upon the principle of microbial fuel cell technology a sewage cell is developed to tap sewage sludge for generating power. This system does not occupy la rge space, and it is simple and compact in construction. Thus, sewage cell is easily accessible to remote areas as it does not require any huge land resources or high-end technologies unlike existing Power plants.
