Briefing #1 1. FAIRCORE4EOSC Project kick-off meeting was held 29-30 June 2022, and all FAIRCORE4EOSC management bodies and work packages are operational. 2. Technical Bridging Team (TBT), the alignment mechanism to coordinate strategic technical developments between FAIRCORE4EOSC, FAIR-IMPACT, EOSC Future and EOSC Association, is in place. Watch the interviews. 3. The project visual identity has been adapted to EOSC Association´s co-branding guidelines.

The FAIRCORE4EOSC project started in June 2022 and will deliver nine new EOSC-Core components in support of a FAIR research life cycle, bridging the gaps identified in the EOSC SRIA. More specifically, the components will enable an EOSC PID infrastructure, an EOSC research software infrastructure, support for sharing and access to metadata schemas and crosswalks and offer advanced research-intent driven discovery services over all EOSC repositories. This deliverable summarises the overall technical specifications for the FAIRCORE4EOSC components. The deliverable is a snapshot of the input received from WP2, WP3, WP4, WP5, WP6 and WP7 via the milestones at M7. This deliverable will be further updated during the project duration on the project wiki to take into account new requirements and feedback received. The Wiki page that this deliverable is derived from automatically mirrors updates to the content provided by the work packages. This White Paper provides recommendations to the EOSC Partnership and the EOSC Association Task Forces in three areas related to the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the EOSC: 1) FAIR by Design, 2) sustainability of the components: the federated data layer, and 3) a strategic and targeted approach to training. Addressing the recommendations will require the involvement of other stakeholders as well, such as research infrastructures, research funders, policy makers and projects, at national and international, domain and cross-domain levels. Recommendations for instruments to synchronise FAIR-related activities conclude this White Paper.

The overarching goal of ENVRI-FAIR is for all participating RIs to improve their FAIRness and prepare the connection of their data repositories and services to the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). With the development of FAIR implementations from the participating RIs and integrated services among the environmental subdomains, these data and services will be brought together at a higher level (for the entire cluster), providing more efficient services for researchers and policymakers.
This deliverable reports the efforts WP7 contributed to the development of common FAIRness goals.
The objective of this task is to provide co-development support driven by an implementation plan that identified by each subdomain, joint use cases among RIs or subdomains, and other needs identified during the project.

How do we ensure a FAIR sustainable EOSC ecosystem? How can we ensure that the value we have created, built by, for and endorsed by the communities it serves remains valuable and alive? Who will ensure that the essential resources needed to feed these services and infrastructure are not depleted? For a healthy EOSC ecosystem to thrive, we need to understand the elements of that landscape, what resources are needed and how they can be maintained and developed over time. We can chart the costs of FAIR and map both current and new financial and business models to them. The EOSC Sustainability Working Group has grappled with these issues in the first EOSC Phase recently publishing the FAIR Lady Report in 2021. A vital responsibility of the newly formed EOSC Association will be to flesh out more details on how to sustain this EOSC international research infrastructure in the years ahead with its Taskforce on Defining Funding Models for EOSC</em&g...

D10.4 "Report on Implementation Activities" describes the work towards making the RIs in the solid earth subdomain FAIR in terms of availability of assets.
In this deliverable we therefore describe for each subsequent task, the work done to address the gaps identified by T10.1 in D10.1 and the implementation plans of T10.2 in D10.2.

The EOSC Governance Symposium 2020 brought the EOSC community together to discuss the transition of the EOSC from its initial phase of development (2016-2020) to its second implementation phase (2021-2027). The event was a culmination of two years of work carried out by the current EOSC governance including the EOSC Governance Board and the Executive Board and its Working Groups. Delivered online to just under 1,000 EOSC stakeholders from over 50 different countries, this was not only the largest EOSC Symposium yet, but it was also an essential opportunity for convergence and alignment principles and priorities which are key for ensuring a smooth transition to the implementation phase. During the Symposium, the Executive Board and its Working Groups delivered nine vital documents which were in various stages of publication. They pave the way forward for EOSC and provided the right spark for extensive and constructive discussion throughout the four days. ...

The report contains an overview of all organised and held Annual Meetings, General Assembly and Steering Committee Meetings of the project. In addition, the meetings of the Board of European Environmental Research Infrastructures which is an advisory panel for ENVRI-FAIR are included. Five ENVRI weeks were organized and held in February each project year. During the ENVRI weeks, meetings of the General Assembly and the Board of European Environmental Research Infrastructures took place. Meetings of the Steering Committee called the Executive Board were conducted at least quarterly, both face-to-face and as virtual meetings.

The objective of Work Package 6 is to provide training to ENVRIs and key ENVRI stakeholder groups about the FAIR principles, how to implement them in RI services and data management activities at data centre level, how to evaluate the degree of implementation using FAIR metrics, as well as relevant legal and policy requirements. While Task 6.1 is concerned with preparing and disseminating training resources, the main responsibility of Task 6.2 is to organise and provide training for data centre staff from RIs (both inside and outside of ENVRI-FAIR) on FAIR implementation. The primary target group for the training is staff at the ENVRI data centres, especially those concerned with data management and service architecture. This group will benefit both from self-paced study activities and from tutorial sessions organized e.g., in connection to project collaboration meetings and Webinars. A second important target group for the training is the staff of data centres of key local, regiona...
