L’attività di Filippo Franco Favale

Abstract

SUMMARY - The activity of Filippo Favale for the promotion of plaeethnological research on the territory of Polignano a Mare - The interest for the ancient origins of populations who frequented and modified the territory of the attracting small town of Puglia (Polignano a Mare), has developed since the end of sixty years of the last century, expecially in the seventy and the eighty years. This interest allowed Filippo Favale, free lancer and news correspondent for “La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno”, to acquire numberless data and discoveries on the territory which , at the light of what is now known, remains of current importance. Thanks to the task of Honorary Inspector, received by the local Archaeological Superintendency and kept for several years, Favale supported the scientific research, particularly in the palaeethnological field, with perseverance and enthusiasm. His numerous writings were concluded despite a painful disease which cause his premature death. Among his finals works there is a volume dedicated to the knowledge of karstic caverns (expecially those of palaeethnological interest) present in the territory.
