In human beings lies, perhaps, one of the most peculiar capacities, on which entire moral and legal systems have been built: free will. This contribution proposes to grasp free will as a liminal space from which the inseparable relationship between the so-called hard sciences and philosophy, which has dealt with this topic since its beginnings, emerges in a singular way. In particular, it will analyse synthetically the repercussions that the discoveries of classical physics have had on the reflection of free action, first, and then the notable change in perspective pro-vided by quantum mechanics, up to the data coming from the most recent cognitive sciences, which - even today - seem to expropriate the field of human freedom from philosophers, who have always had almost exclusive prerogative over it. The aim of the paper will be to identify a synthetic approach to the question of free will.
