ABS TRACT: Nowadays, paying attention to the facade and facade design has considerable importance. The facade of the buildings and cons tructions is an essential part of the urban landscape, and thereupon it plays a significant role in urban quality. One of the crucial factors in forming urban landscapes is employing aes thetic measures as touchs tones in the design process. This s tudy aims to reach a set of aes thetic measures from the viewpoint of people in the same society according to the perceptual differences of citizens in the northern and southern regions of Tehran. There are several measures that, by relying on them, we can arrive at an ideal facade design from the viewpoint of people and the building users; designers can also help designers cooperate with the idea and viewpoints of people, their approval in their designs. The following research is done in an applied-analytic method, and gathering the data was done by library and field research and by designing ques tionna...

Facades are perceived as such a body shape in their urban surrounding, their beauty and significance are felt through the impact we feel towards their representativity and shape’s features. The aesthetic of the buildings’ facades has been a subject study for a set of researchers that tried to adjust the significance of expressions that deal with an aesthetic concept that is characterized by subjectivity. This is by identifying the physical properties of the interface that are most affecting the behavior of the recipient by acceptance, in order to rely on them objectively during the design process. How can we define then the aesthetic meanings and perceptions of buildings’ facades and their components among their users, especially in self-construction housing neighborhoods? Considering them as users, creators and they helped the architects in their design. Its own aesthetics is the reflection of a certain socio-cultural level, besides a certain knowledge and experience that are respo...

Problem statement: Squares and streets of a city are the main parts of the public spaces that are considered the showroom of the visual environment of a city. In the past, buildings in addition to being beautiful, they had been accommodated with their background, and with respect to the surrounding environment. Today, the view of many Iranian cities is chaotic and disturbed and this is a result of the heterogeneous and disoriented association of form, activity and space on a large scale, and on small scale, it is due to the lack of harmony and proportionality in the composition of elements of the buildings that are formed together. Research objectives: The purpose of this study was to extract the effective factors on the promotion of formal aesthetics of urban facades and their application in redesigning of Enqelab street facade in Sanandaj- between Namaki junction and Enqelab square- that is located in the historical context and the Primary core of Sanandaj. Since this research seeks to apply the available basic knowledge, belongs to the field of applied research, and as this research attempts to apply some criteria for the measurement and analysis of the environmental quality, it is considered as descriptive-analytic research. Research method: This research tries to acquire a deep understanding of the current state of the area in order to redesign and reinforce the form of urban facades. To achieve this goal, the research process has been carried out in 3 stages: First, we examine theories related to urban aesthetics, then identify the components of the urban landscape and explain the physical goal, and in the 3rd stage a parametric model for the measurement and analysis of visual quality in the urban landscape is presented. Conclusion: The results of this research will be presented as a guideline for enhancing visual aesthetics of urban landscape design.

Building facades contribute to attractive urban streetscapes. In between, physical elements and visual qualities of building façades play the most important role. This study seeks to identify the impact of building facades on creating attractive streetscapes in the city of Kuala Lumpur. In achieving this, a self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted to gather peoples' evaluation of building facades in Kuala Lumpur where combination of modern and traditional architecture creates worth-study urban landscapes. The researcher randomly surveyed 330 respondents, 18 to 50 years old, from the passers-by who just visit the area and those who reside and work there, using the time interval sampling method. The results demonstrate that consistency of colors and details of building facades, simplicity, unity, conformity of store lots in a single building block, large windows, transparency of the function of buildings, and display items of store-fronts determine visual richness of streetscapes in the study areas. The findings contribute to visual identity of cities through creating attractive streetscapes.

Facade and urban landscape, the dominant figure in the body of the city and containing the first messages in urbanism in the citizens' outlook, has been a place of dialogue especially from the half of last century. The recognition of this theme its complex due to its' close relationship with issue of identity and character of the city, and its' scope was expanded with the beginning of the modern age and non-conventional management practices based on the law on urban development. In our society, urban landscape and face as a part of the country's contemporary architecture conflict became as one of central focus of dialogue despite the specific cultural orientation of the system especially after the revolution and growth of population and urbanization share, war reconstructions, a massive expansion of cities in response to immigrant settlers and the expansion of higher education. * According to the purposes intended in this article, the method used in data collection method has been Library method and studying written documents. The content was analyzed using inductive reasoning method after data systematic and accurate foundation theoretical collection a and design of building facades in the old contexts of the city described. * The vulnerability of city spaces in front of inappropriate facades, in the design of buildings it should generally be noted that facades of buildings should be able to express the volume inside the building in addition to solidarity with public spaces. * So methodical design of facade and paying attention to 'riginality and beauty give the city identity and reduces the chaos of the city and thus turbulence of the people of city. Building façades not only play an important role in users' perception of buildings and urban spaces, but they also have a significant impact on visual qualities in this domain. Thus, the purpose of this study was to shed light on the relationships between urban building façade visual elements and people's preferences in the city of Gorgan, Iran. A photo-questionnaire survey was administered on a total number of 124 students enrolled in three faculties of Golestan University. Each participant measured 24 pictures of building façades based on eight independent variables of urban building façade visual elements (shape, color, decorations, materials, texture, roof, openings and windows, and proportions) and their preferences as the criterion variable. The results revealed that 3 variables of shape, color, and proportions were positive and significant variables and color was reported as the most influential positive predictor accounting for people's preferences. Furthermore; complexity, color selection, and composition-association were identified as influential positive predictors explaining shape, color, and proportions. In general, the findings could be of assistance to designers in evaluating building façades in order to optimize quality and to bring closer together users' views and tastes.

In today's world, defining a city's identity is one of the most important parts of a city's social life. Cities must have their own characters and uniqueness in order to transfer it to their residents. Therefore, as public city spaces, which affect the urban quality and reflect the culture and behavior of the society, are major functional and visual factors, and show the welfare of the residents, it is better to start evaluating the city and its citizens by analyzing these factors. Meanwhile, in the urban level, a city texture and landscape, which illustrates the streets, squares and also buildings as its main components must especially be regarded from a historical point of view in order to achieve a more identifiable city. In recent years, along with the quick urban development, the cities' shapes have exactly changed. They do not follow their traditional patterns any more. Thus, lots of problems in urban furniture and also city identity have risen. There are no united and organized patterns for designing urban furniture, especially in Famagusta, Cyprus, as a historical coastal city, which is selected as a case study. These problems always confuse people and also cause visual pollution. So, this research wants to discuss urban VIS design (visual identity/image system) in public spaces in order to solve the problem. Therefore, the study tries to define the visual identity system and develops it in the case study by particular attention to history, nature and culture of the city and citizens to gain a unique urban identity.

The physical identity in the urban areas can be considered as a concept which is influenced by the way of arranging the urban body. As a matter of fact, the appropriate coordination and the compatibility of physical components, such as the urban façades, can definitely facilitate the reorganization of the urban environment for being more identifiable; this issue is so obvious in the historical Iranian cities which have proper identities in their physical structures. Nowadays, the dominance of contradictory approaches and the absence of a convenient orientation have unfortunately produced inadequate urban façades and have annihilated the physical identity in Iranian cities. Also, the process of globalization and elimination of the cultural differences have greatly undermined the possibility of creating the traditional and contextual memories. In fact, the Iranian urban developments with the lack of comprehensive, endemic, and contextual plans and actions, increasingly decline the urban identity in any aspect and dimension. These types of flaws have specifically brought severe problems such as poor beauty, weak legibility, lack of unity, inappropriate physical integrity, etc., which eventually result in the non-identifiable and depersonalized urban bodies. Thereupon, this article needs some visual information which can intuitively assist to scrutinize the deterioration factors of the physical identity in the Iranian cities. Hence, by choosing the field study method is tried to reach some empirical investigation in order to collect the required visual information through photography. Moreover, at the end of this article is attempted to offer several solutions and arrangements for promoting the physical identity and also healing the depersonalization in Iranian cities.
