Course Description: Since we live in an era of ‘globalization’ it is important to understand the roots of cross-cultural interaction. This course introduces students to the societies that have contributed to shaping the world through a broad discussion of the rise of agri-urban cultures and the major religious/philosophical movements that have risen with them. It covers roughly from 4000 BCE to 1500 CE. Emphasis is placed on the role of migration, trade, and imperialism in spreading ideas and institutions across the globe, thus preparing the student for further study in world history as well as concentration in any of the areas touched upon.
