Our Mission
To promote and deliver sustainable watershed management, fostering a legacy of environmental stewardship and community collaboration.
To promote and deliver sustainable watershed management, fostering a legacy of environmental stewardship and community collaboration.
To ensure sustainable, healthy watersheds for all.
Founded in 2008, WUQWATR is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to the health and sustainability of our watersheds. Spanning over 23,443 km² across Saskatchewan, from Regina to Humboldt and from Central Butte to Tyvan, we encompass one of the largest watershed stewardship areas in the province, encompassing more than 109 vibrant communities. Our mission is rooted in a simple, yet profound belief: the wellbeing of our watersheds is vital for a sustainable future.
Our focus at WUQWATR is on proactive watershed stewardship. This involves a blend of effective communication strategies and innovative programming initiatives aimed at protecting both surface and ground waters. We pride ourselves on our collaborative approach, working closely with our members, individual agricultural producers, local governments, and various industry stakeholders. Our efforts extend to delivering tailored programming to landowners and municipalities within our watersheds, all made possible through the generous support of our public and private sector sponsors.
We’re actively involved in a variety of critical initiatives, including source water protection, agricultural water management, as well as preparing for and mitigating the impacts of floods, droughts, and climate change. In our early years, our activities were guided by the Source Water Protection Plan.
Now, having achieved most of its action items, we are steered by a comprehensive Strategic Plan, developed with input from community members across our four Sub-Watersheds:
This plan, crafted with the assistance of the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority and technical experts, reflects our community-driven ethos.

Wascana & Upper Qu’Appelle Watersheds Association Taking Responsibility (WUQWATR) is a non-profit organization with a focus on promoting watershed stewardship through communications and programming initiatives.
The water that flows through the four sub watersheds that comprise WUQWATR are in Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 Territories, and the homeland of the Métis Nation. We pay our respects to the water, and the First Nations and Métis Ancestors, and reaffirm our relationship with one another.
