New RelevantMagazine.com article

This one's called, The Boy with the Thorn in His Side. Yes, the title comes from The Smiths. The article is a story about my struggle with anxiety and depression. Hope you enjoy.

Meditate on These Things

I wrote this earlier this afternoon for a magazine. I just figured I'd post a copy of it here as well, in case anyone was interested in reading it. :)

Take Care!

Christy

Philippians 4:8 says,

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true,

whatever things are noble, whatever things are just,

whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,

whatever thing are of good report, it there is any virtue

and if there is anything praiseworthy –

mediate on these things.” (NKJV)

I was thinking about this verse the other day. The concept goes contrary to what our society teaches. It seems like everywhere we go we are bombarded with immorality and lies. TV and Movies try to subtly suggest that lying isn’t really so bad, if the circumstances are right. Magazines and Newspapers suggest that we forget modesty and wear the latest fashions, no matter how immodest they may be. The media always wants to share the latest gossip about Hollywood celebrities, and there are even people who will tell you that adultery is acceptable.

Someone has to go first. . .

I'm the same as Caitlin - not a big fan of being the first one, but someone has to start. I wrote this about a month and a half ago. It's sort of a testimony - random thoughts piece. :)

Lifted Magazine

For those looking for an opportunity, there's an ezine called Lifted Magazine that is looking for writers. It's bi-monthly, and they are mostly aimed at Christians in their teens and twenties. They recently accepted two of my devotionals, so you might want to check them out.

One More Newbie!

Wow . . . I'm feeling really young and inexperienced here! I suppose that could be a good thing. Surrounded by people older and more experienced than I may allow me to learn from them!

My name is Christine. I am 16 years old. I was saved at the age of 4, and raised in a very conservative Baptist church which I recently left. I've been writing for about 3 years. I've never written any fiction. I typically stick to writing articles on Theology and Biblical Principles. Over the last few months I've only been averaging one article a month, but I'm hoping to improve in that area. I've got a few ideas running through my mind. If I actually took the time to sit down and write I'd be much better off. I believe writing is a tool that God has given us to glorify Him. In our technological world it is becoming increasingly easy to build one another up and encourage one another to use these gifts to bring honor to our King.

I've written for Regenerate Our Culture Magazine twice, but mostly I prefer to stick to my own blog, Pro Gloria Dei. I chose that name because it is Latin for "For the Glory of God".

I suppose that's about all there is to say about me. I look forward to interacting with you all.

God Bless,

Christy

Another Newbie Here!

Hey guys! My name is Maggi and I'm a 31 year old Graduate student in the Pittsburgh area. Right now I'm a journalism student but I have an A.S in Theater and a B.A. in English (with a concentration in drama and film studies). Yup, working on a third degree and I still can't find a job....my icon from the Broadway musical Avenue Q, says it all, lol

I had a story about being a Christian single, published in God Allows U-Turns For Women and last semester I was an Editor on the college newspaper. I edited the Perspectives section which is basically the opinion section so I was able to do a lot of writing for that (because the opinion section is always the funnest and most interesting thing to write for and read, heh). I write both Christian and secular things. I would love to get into trying my hand at creative nonfiction and if I could write creative fiction, I would totally want to write a young adult lit novel. :)

One day I'd like to either:

1. Work in international journalism, especially if it's with a group like World Vision because I'd love to shine a light on the issues going on around the world

2. Write for a lifestyle magazine

3. Write for an entertainment publication but NOT a tabloid. I'd love to write for a Theater Magazine one day because I do miss the theater and would love to live in NYC one day.

God Allows U-Turns is accepting more submissions now for upcoming books and I might try submitting something again. Here is the info for anyone interested:

I came really close to being published in Chicken Soup for the Soul but it came down to me and another girl because we had similar stories and they chose hers over mine. Oh well. :)

Newbie!

Hello. My name is Travis. I'm 24 and live in Easton, MD. I've been a Christian since I was 17, which is also the same time I started seriously writing. I started off with poetry, but have recently moved to creative nonfiction and narrative essays.

One of my narrative essays, "Tarished Superman," was recently published on Relevantmagazine.com. I also have a blog called The Boy With The Thorn In His Side.

Hey!

This is a community for Christians writers only. You don't have to be a good writer, a great writer, or anything. You just have to be writing for HIS glory!
If you'd like to be part of it, just leave a comment, tell a bit about yourself, and I'll add you!
Writing for Him,
                          Caitlin
p.s. if your favorite color is purple, you'll be my favorite person! lol, i'm totally just kidding!
