Write.as Warrant Canary

Existing and proposed laws, both in the USA and around the world, allow for
secret warrants, searches, and seizures of data.

Some such laws allow for criminal penalties if the warrant, search, or seizure
is revealed to the public.
They disallow the disclosure of events that would directly affect the users of
services such as Write.as.

Write.as and its principals and employees will, in fact, comply with such
warrants and their provisions for secrecy to the extent required by law.

In addition, Write.as will make available, updated quarterly, a "warrant canary" in
the form of a cryptographically signed message containing:
1. A declaration regarding warrants, searches, seizures, and legal compulsion.
2. Three (3) headlines from a major news source to establish and verify the
date.

Note: This scheme is not infallible. Although cryptographically signing the
declaration makes it impossible for a third party to produce arbitrary
declarations, it does not prevent a third party from using force to coerce an
individual to produce false declarations. The news headlines in the message
serve to demonstrate that that update could not have been created prior to
that date. It also shows that a series of these updates were not created in
advance.

It should be noted with significance if this message fails to be updated on a
quarterly basis.
