How We Fix a Broken WordPress Site

WordPress issues can arise from a wide range of sources. Your site’s code, WordPress core files, hosting service provider related issues, a broken database connection after a website migration, outdated theme, or plugin conflicts. For beginner WordPress users, identifying and resolving these problems can be challenging without expert help.

With over 10 years of hands-on experience fixing WordPress sites, we diagnose and resolve most WordPress issues within an hourHere are some of the common WordPress issues and how we handle them:

WordPress Issue

WordPress Issue: PHP Fatal Error

This error occurs when PHP encounters an issue that stops the whole PHP process, and usually causes your entire WordPress website to crash.

An example looks like: Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Class 'WooCommerce' not found in /public_html/...

We enable WordPress debugging and check server error log files to see what’s wrong with your site’s code.

Next, we take appropriate action, such as reinstalling the missing plugin, verifying file integrity, increasing memory limit, resolving plugin conflicts, or fixing syntax errors in the affected files.

WordPress Issue

WordPress Issue: PHP Memory Limit

Memory exhausted error is a type of PHP fatal error that occurs when your WordPress site exceeds the allocated server memory limit, and you end up with a broken WordPress site.

This often happens due to resource-heavy WordPress plugins, processing large images, or database queries.

Typical memory exhausted error looks like: Out of memory (allocated X bytes) (tried to allocate Y bytes)

Increasing the PHP memory limit to 256 MB or larger solves this issue. If not, we investigate further by isolating memory-intensive WordPress plugins and other sources that can cause memory leaks.

WordPress Issue

WordPress Issue: Critical Error

Critical errors may not always crash the entire site. They often affect specific parts of the site.

It often results in the “White Screen of Death” (WSOD) or “There has been a critical error on this website.” error message.

WordPress v5.2 and later includes a feature that helps site administrators recover from critical errors via a recovery mode email notification.

This helps admins log in and fix the issue without the site being completely inaccessible. Disabling or updating the conflicting plugin usually fixes the critical error.

If the issue persists, manual troubleshooting process—similar to addressing fatal errors—should be performed via FTP or File Manager of your web hosting.

WordPress Issue

WordPress Issue: Too Many Redirects

Your may see a ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS error when there’s a misconfiguration in your site’s settings, causing the browser to be stuck in an endless loop of redirects.

After waiting for a couple of seconds, the browser displays the error message: This page isn't working example.com redirected you too many times.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t specify what’s triggering the redirect loop in WordPress.

If clearing your browser cache and cookies doesn’t fix the issue, you should check your WordPress URL Settings, save Permalinks to reset the .htaccess file, check for server-side redirections at your hosting provider panel, or clear your Cloudflare CDN cache.

WordPress Issue

WordPress Issue: Database Connection Error

If your WordPress site shows a Error establishing a database connection error message, it usually means incorrect database credentials, a corrupted database, or a server issue.

If it occurs intermittently, or has Commands out of sync error message, it could be due to high server load, limited database connections, bot attack, or an unstable web hosting environment, which is harder to debug.

If you didn’t change anything but still getting this error, then there is definitely wrong with the server environment or something has modified the wp-config.php file.

Our one-off task service covers the database connection error. We quickly identify the root cause of the issue and inform you accordingly through our WordPress support platform.

WordPress Issue

Contact Forms Issue: Emails Not Sent or Going to Spam Folder

This is a common issue if your emails are not hosted on the same server as your WordPress site.

These days, many users prefer to use emails via Office 365 or Google Workspace rather than regular POP/IMAP accounts because they offer better reliability, security, spam filtering, and seamless access across devices with cloud-based synchronization.

Your WordPress site, by default, uses the PHP mail() function to deliver emails, but many email providers have strict SPF, DKIM, and DMARC policies that can block or mark these emails as spam.

We can install and configure an SMTP plugin on your WordPress site to authenticate and send emails through your email provider’s SMTP server. This ensures proper email delivery from your contact forms.

Web Design

Web Design

We excel at the technical side of things, ensuring your site runs fast, error-free, and stays secure. However, when it comes to design, we leave that to the creative web designers.

We work great with design agencies, complementing their work without stepping on their toes.

Browser Code

Build a New Website

We focus on fixing and managing existing WordPress websites, not building new ones.

Many development agencies work with us, so we can often suggest a solution that fits your budget.

Bulk Data Entry

Bulk Data Entry

If you need to add thousands of new pages, posts, products, or other types of content, we can help find an automated importer, but we can’t input them manually.
Custom Development

Custom Plugin or Theme Development

If you need a new feature, we’ll typically find a plugin that fits your needs. However, we don’t offer custom theme development or modify plugins to meet specific requests of your WordPress website.
