📍 The Liberal Cup Brewpub – Hallowell, Maine – Continuing the Thanksgiving throwback, this was stop number four on the Maine run. After a couple days in Kennebunkport, we headed back to Veronica’s childhood home in Augusta. We had just enough time to change before meeting one of her childhood friends for a quick lunch and drinks. Since I had a say in the destination, obviously… we went to a brewery, but it definitely didn’t feel like a brewery.
🍺 The Beer? I’ll be honest — I wasn’t blown away by most of the flight. I ran through seven beers (for research purposes, obviously), and overall they just didn’t fully hit my personal sweet spot. That said, I did really like one of their IPAs, so maybe the rest of the lineup didn’t get a totally fair shake. Sometimes one solid pour is enough to keep hope alive.
✨ The Vibe? This is where they won me over. Great location, super comfortable feel, and the kind of place I could absolutely see myself hanging out at regularly if I lived nearby. It has that neighborhood brewpub energy — welcoming, relaxed, and easy to settle into.
🥣 The Food? I ordered a bowl of chowder that heroically absorbed the better part of my seven-beer flight — and it was delicious. Warm, hearty, exactly what you want in Maine in late November. Everyone at the table had great food, which explains why this place is clearly a local favorite.
🧢 Merch? Didn’t see much out and about, and I probably should’ve asked. That’s on me. I’ll be back on a future visit and will make it my mission to see if there’s a hat waiting to join the collection.
🧼 Restrooms? Easy enough to find and clean enough not to raise any concerns. Solid, no drama.
🌞 Bonus: They’ve got a nice patio space too. It wasn’t in use during our visit, but I can absolutely picture sitting out there next summer (or next visit) with a pint in hand.

So another new location for me in Maine. This time was Hallowell, just about 25 minutes from my girlfriend’s home. We wanted to meet up with one of her oldest friends so shortly after walking in the door from the drive up from Kennebunkport, we changed and headed right back out 🍻
It felt like it was about to snow, so I grabbed one of my new hoodies, the Thrift Box Brasserie, which is one of my brewery dreams and every purchase goes to keep that dream alive. Check out the website to see some of the merch where the proceeds go to that dream and please come back tomorrow to see the full review of The Liberal Cup Brewpub 🍻

📍 Batson River Brewing – Kennebunk, Maine – Following last week’s Kennebunk review, this one was a brisk 30-second walk away, so obviously I had to go. I’ve been to their beautiful Portland location before and had a great time, so expectations were already set. At first glance, that “quick walk” felt like it was all stairs and multiple levels, but once you’re in, it opens up into a seriously cool space.
🍺 The Beer? I’ll be honest — their beers aren’t my personal favorites. The Loon was the standout for me in the core flight, but overall they’re a mixed bag for my palate. That said, they make great cocktails, and I still enjoyed each beer like it was my last… which technically, they were for the day. No regrets.
✨ The Vibe? This place is awesome. Patios and decks everywhere, water views from multiple angles, and somehow a full Christmas vibe happening the day before Thanksgiving. Super fun energy, layered layout, and just a unique spot to hang out.
🥨 The Food? Didn’t eat this time because we had big dinner plans, but the food at their Portland location was amazing when I visited before. That alone makes me confident the Kennebunk kitchen would deliver too.
🧢 Merch? Already grabbed a hat on my Portland visit, so this stop was strictly about the flight and a couple sips of a cocktail before calling it an incredible day.
🧼 Restrooms? Clean, easy to find, no chaos. Always appreciated in a multi-level spot.

Bottom line: Batson River in Kennebunk is a super fun, uniquely designed spot with killer views and strong overall vibes. Even if the beers aren’t at the very top of my list, the space, cocktails, and experience make it worth the stop. I’d love to be back in the summer to really “sip” back, enjoy the water views, and finally dive into the food. And yes — I’ll absolutely be back. 🍻

So this is another prequel to a few weeks of throwback of my Thanksgiving trip. I hate to keep repeating the same things each week, as there were 7 breweries on the trip, so let’s move on to the beer facts. I had a few hours of sightseeing while my girlfriend and her family were unpacking. By sightseeing, I mean brewery hopping around Kennebunkport, of course.
I love visiting Maine whenever I can, such a strange break from Arizona, but similar in many ways too. Both are pretty have pretty much prefect weather for 8-9 months out of the year and then you just want to get out for a couple months. Luckily for me, it’s where my amazing girlfriend is from and we visit her childhood home at least twice a year and I get to visit all sorts of breweries, big and small.
I try to get out and get fun gratuitous pics of beer, breweries and my merch, whenever I can. This trip to Maine was tough because I had to cover up with jackets and scarfs, but my Brewtiful Adventures hat made several appearances and multi locations and Batson River was a great place to stop. Neither the chilly wind and rainy almost snowy weather was going to keep me from enjoying a flight of beer a cocktail and taking in the view.
Come back tomorrow to see the full review of Batson River’s Kennebunkport location and please stop by the Brewtiful website to check out all the fun beer merch 🍻
