I have the same issue. Check if they have the pdf in the uploads/2017/08/ or 2017/09 folder. Whenever someone uploads a pdf using this plugin its in there with 0 bytes. Not sure whats wrong with the plugin.

Apparently I need the Enhanced Category Module. It is not listed under modules on the main site though.
