Exactly. I set Remove the categories prefix in Yoast settings but /category/ prefix is still showing.
I have the latest Yoast SEO 14.6.1. I did reset Permalinks setting without making any changes.
When the URL contains a child category, /category/ prefix is shown.

When the URL contains only one parent category, there is no /category/ prefix.

At this point, I had to drop child categories and only assign parent category to each post so that the /category/ prefix is not shown.
