Your suggestions are probably perfect for someone who possesses even the slightest modicum of technical skills, but that’s not me, I’m afraid.

This is my first attempt with WordPress and it took ages for me to even get the thing to work. Now, I’m fast running out of time and feel it might be best to delete the whole thing and start again from fresh as I don’t know how to do half the sensible things you suggested.

For instance:

Not sure what the theme is. I did install new pages and they appear in the line at the top, but WP is only showing a blank page. Why can’t I simply ‘move’ one of the other pages into the ‘Blog’ slot. As I said, I can’t even find an empty Blog page on WP!

There was a page showing at first on Blog, but at 76, I can’t remember what it was. Blank now, except for that message.

I wouldn’t know CSS if it bit me on the bum! Not technical enough to change code, even if I culd find it.

-> Disable all the plugins.
Now that is something I can try, but only have a coupler. One for something called ‘All in One SEO Pack’. One called ‘Google XML Sitemaps’There was one called, ‘Hello Dolly’, but I deleted that.

Gosh, who would have thought it?

I’d be more than happy to give you all the passwords etc, so you could go in and see what I screwed up, if it would help. Maybe, if you were able to go in and replace the ‘1’ in raygc1.com, it would all be restored and work again?

Shall never try to transfer after this. Easier to build another WP site on raygc.com, don’t you think. Of course, not being able to find the first part, the ‘Administration’ might have put me into the wrong and a critical area. Can’t really remember now.

Thank you for your help, so far. I really appreciate it, but if it will take ages to fix, please tell me and i’ll upload a new WP into raygc.com and go from there, as time is so impportant to me now.

Well, I have a slight? problem.

i tried to take your advice. Found my way to I think it was general Panel. Couldn’t find the Administration but did find something called “General panel”. I am going by memory, because I cannot get back in. Both those URLs now seem only to bring up a 404 page, I believe it is called.

That’s what comes of being lazy and trying to copy over the whole thing from raygc1.com, to raygc.com.

O.K. What do I do now? I can send you all my log in details, from which you might be able to get into my WP site and change the URLs back to raygc1.com, from raygc.com. then I would just build another WP business in raygc.com, starting from scratch again. Very disappointed, as I need to be up and producing as soon as possible, to earn my rent. My pension won’t cut it.

O.K., Well I found the plugin button. It was hidden on the top, right hand, side of the screen and i don’t see so well anymore.

However. There are but two plugins in there. just the original two!

What happened to my 15 new ones, that i uploaded into the corrent plugins folder? Not a sign of those and I need to activate them, in some way. Any suggestions, please?.

First, sorry Michael, but accidentally also put this under someone else’s post, so I’m repeating it here.

Hello Michael, thank you for trying to assist I do appreciate it however, it might be better if I scrub the whole operation, deleting everything in WordPress and start again and scratch.

I have tried downloading the new version through FileZilla three, or four, times now, but to no avail and must get cracking and try to bring in an income. I followed all the instructions, deleting the files I was told to delete. I tried uploading as both individual files, as well as folders. I tried every combination of your instructions that I could think of, but when I log on again I am greeted with “A new version is available! Please update now.”, every time.

As I said, it might be easier for me to simply delete my whole WordPress operation and simply upload a new, fresh, one through my cpanel in my host, qualityhostonline.com. What is it called? Fantastico? Something like that.

If I delete all my WordPress files through FileZilla, I could still run into some very bad problems as they do not all appear to be in folders, but many are loose and scattered among files from my other websites. That’s what it looks like, anyway.

Now, I notice there appears to be a new beta version of WordPress on the horizon, but I’ll face that problem when I get to it.

One other tiny thing. I had worked this post out and try to send the message back to you, but it said it had been closed, or resolved and I lost all my writing, so I just had to do it all again. That peed me off a bit, I can tell you. Doing this first in notepad, just in case!

Suggestions and advice from you, or others on the forum will be most appreciated by me. Thank you all.

It might be that I simply do not have the basic intelligence to master WordPress. Perhaps one needs the flexibility of youth, to succeed in this. I have been trying to get this working all day, so far.

I shall certainly continue to try and have made some progress today.
