Online Backup

Hi toggerybob,
Yes it will backup all data in a multisite. We just backup the entire wordpress filesystem and database which will contain all the data for all subdomains.
If the sites are unique wordpress installations and not a multisite setup, you will need the plugin installed on each site though and backup separately.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Reaching maximum storage spaceHi fowlerwp,
You need to email support “at” backup-technology.co.uk your username for the online vault, and request an amount you need. They can increase storage for you if the request is reasonable.
We do not offer online backup to anywhere else but our servers. But you could use your unlimited storage by using local backups. Just be sure to download the backups regularly so they are kept separate from your site.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Backup Won't DownloadHi,
The Backup > Download Full Backup will generate a backup which can then be downloaded. It won’t download a backup you already made.
If you originally did local backup, it will appear in Local Backups page.
If you originally did online backup, it will appear at https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/. You just need to login.
If you still have Activity Log you can look in there for your original backup and it will tell you what options were used and where the backup went.

Hi Lex,
The slowness issue seems to be your blog can’t access itself. Do you use the WP_ALTERNATE_CRON setting in wp-config.php by any chance?
For backup to go fast we need to constantly run, and we do that by loading the wordpress over and over in the background. If the blog can’t access itself it can’t do this, so the backup has big pauses of over a minute between runs.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Backups failing due to space?Hi,
There are a few directories with large files which are ultimately causing the problem. The plugin is not able to process them.
/backwpups
/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-a8e60-temp
/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-e13d8-backupsThere may be other folders in /wp-content/uploads that you can exclude too.
Meanwhile, I’ve done a few more tweaks. One is to improve skipping – it would generally skip after 3 failed attempts at a file but detecting it is not as accurate as it can be. I’ve also thought of a way to improve the file backup so the size of file where things begin to timeout will be bigger, so it might work better for some larger files. I’ll work on getting another version to you soon.
If you can try excluding those folders above, and if there are any other backup folders, exclude those too. Things might run much better already.

Jason

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Backups failing due to space?Hi Cheyenne,
Apologies, that version was the wrong one, it’s a newer non-tracing one, here is the correct one:
https://wordpress.backup-technology.co.uk/plugin/wponlinebackup-724-tracing.zipRegards,
Jason
Hi Lex,
Try this version:
https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/plugin/wponlinebackup-722-tracing.zipYou will need to write down your existing settings and delete the plugin, then upload this one.
It has some fixes for unknown problem. But if it doesn’t fix it there is a log file generated called trace.log you can send to us for investigation. This can be downloaded if you go to Help & Support tab, you see a link at bottom. Compress this file to ZIP file and email to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk
It might be the fixes we’ve done will fix the problem though, if that’s the case, let me know, I will give you a version that doesn’t create the log file so you don’t need to worry about it growing too big. The fixes will be in 3.0.5 which is pending release as we speak.
Thanks,
Jason

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] backup "successful" but doesn't existHi ravenedit,
Look at the icons next to the activities, and match them with the legend underneath. One of the icons will tell you where it is going:
Wifi transmission symbol = Online vault which is where you are looking at the moment
CD = Local backup – look on the “Local Backups & Decryption” page and you’ll see them
Letter/Email symbol = Emailed to an email address, click “View Events”, it will tell you where it emailedAlso, if you click “Schedule” to get to the schedule configuration, you’ll see the options selected. One of the options is where to store the backup: Local, Online, Email

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Backup not arriving via email, as setHi newbie63,
The activity log is visible by clicking “Activity log” in the plugin page in WordPress admin. Each activity is there and has events viewable by clicking “View Events” – this will show you errors, warnings, reasons for failure etc.
To reduce backup size so you CAN email it, just exclude some folders on General Settings from filesystem backup. If you have some old uploads folders you don’t particularly want to backup, you could enter “wp-content/uploads/2011” for example.
That or you can setup local backups. These are stored in “wp-content/backups” as described on the page called “Local Backups & Decryption”. You can reach this area by FTP. Or instead you could send them to our online vault, https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/. There is 100MB limit there by default but if you email us you can get it increased free of charge usually.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Backups failing due to space?Hi Cheyenne,
We have another trace version we just patched:
https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/plugin/wponlinebackup-722-tracing.zipCan you delete the old one and upload this one and try it out?
If you still get issues you can send us the log again. We noticed that the backup was running through, just extremely slowly. It noticed it had a failure and tried to slow down to avoid another – but slowed down way too much! So we’ve fixed that and it should only slow down momentarily, and not as harshly, and pick up speed again straight away. Hopefully it should fix the problem.

Jason

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Getting an error when backing upHi LKR,
If the backup finished with “The backup failed due to an unknown error”, then that’s the log we would like to investigate. The one you sent had a different error, “A filesystem operation failed” – we believe this to be related to the database being too big to compress to /tmp.
If you get unknown error again, email the trace.log.
For the filesystem operation, the trace won’t usually help us as the error message is detailed enough. We have some experimental stuff that works well around these filesystem errors in /tmp but not ready for release. We also have a tweak coming that might help but it will be a week or two at least.

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Backups failing due to space?Hi clcwords,
You must remove the current version before you can add another one. WordPress won’t let you install two versions.
WordPress doesn’t let you do manual upgrades either so you need to delete and install again.
I will ask to check for your email. When did you send it?

In reply to: [Online Backup for WordPress] Recurrent backup errorHi emedialab,
If you have a site that is 100MB in size, you will need at least 100MB free space to back it up. It takes the files and creates a copy of them in a backup file.
Also, check what size wp-content/uploads/2012/09/VT5-300×229.jpg is.
