Hello @mattiamarty
Thanks for using Yoast SEO. Have you added your site to Google Search Console? If yes, you could request indexing for a few of the Italian pages and share screenshots of any indexing error reported by Google.
Hi @maybellyne , thank you very much for your reply!
Yes, the site https://triumgallery.com/ is correctly added to Google Search Console, and the sitemap (/sitemap_index.xml) was submitted months ago. It includes all content types in both Italian (main language) and English.
The issue is this:
🔴 Many Italian pages are not indexed, even though:
- They are in the sitemap,
- They load fine,
- The canonical tag correctly points to themselves (Italian version).
For example:
https://triumgallery.com/artist/emilio-tadini/ (italian page)
→ Canonical in HTML:
<link rel="canonical" href="https://triumgallery.com/artist/emilio-tadini/" />
But Google Search Console says:
“Page with redirect”
→ Canonical considered: https://triumgallery.com/en/artist/emilio-tadini/ (english page)
🛠️ Recently, I disabled the browser language redirect option in WPML (previously set to always redirect), to prevent Googlebot from being redirected to English.
I’m waiting to see if this change helps, but I’d like to know:
👉 Do you think this change alone could solve the indexing problem?
Or is the issue likely caused by the missing WPML SEO (Yoast SEO Multilingual) plugin, which I haven’t been able to install yet?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hello Mattia,
Thanks for the added information. If the URLs use self-referencing canonicals and are in the sitemap, that means you have everything set up correctly from your end.
WPML SEO is an add-on that makes your multilingual website compatible with Yoast SEO. Not having it might pose other issues, but not what you currently experience.
Recently, I disabled the browser language redirect option in WPML (previously set to always redirect), to prevent Googlebot from being redirected to English.
This may be connected to the issue. Since you have recently disabled the setting, please monitor the results and do let us know how it goes.
