WordFence Causing Index Bloat
-
Hi,
I got a very strange google index bloat issue that has killed my SEO and WordFence is at the base of it.
It all started in August last year when i moved from Blogger to WordPress and had a developer install Wordfence for me. I had just 268 posts then and changed post permalink structure 3 times (moving away from .html) and finally settled for the / version.
In November I had a strange hack that sent the WordFence plugin nuts and it began to add spammy URLs to my site and several plugins malfuntioning. By the time i figured things out my ranking had dropped badly. I removed the plugin, fired my developer and started doing stuff myself.
This was December now, about the time WordPress was doing massive updates and so i ran into a lot of problems that saw me reinstalled WordPress 3 times but i eventually got it right, having started from scratch with just an xml file. I had to spend all of January till now modifying my posts to suit WP SEO and imput new images since the xml file never imports attached images.
I currently have just 237 posts on my site, some with missing images. Bling shows an indexed number of about 410 but Google index is 17.5k.
My Alexia ranking has fallen from 5m to 17m and my traffic is gone. I have done a Site:mysite.com search and found over 20k indexed content and guess what, thousands of the bloating urls are wordfence base urls… see below…
