What have they done???

I used Kubio for 2 sites I build 2 years ago (Game Site and a Fashion Model Agency). Loved the system and simplicity… now this Hero crap.. sorry, I was looking for a more friendly word but.. that is the most friendly word I came up with. If I would have run into the Hero version 2 years ago I would never EVER have used it. They changed things for the worse.. and not just a little worse.. is UNUSABLE now.. bye bye Kubio.. will use something else for the new Music Studio Site I build.. just shaking my head.

Hi @jdilling ,
I’m really sorry to hear about your recent experience, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback.
I’d like to clarify that there haven’t been any significant changes to the Hero section — its structure and functionality remain largely the same as before. We also pay a lot of attention to backwards compatibility when making updates to make sure we don’t break client websites.
It sounds like something specific is not working as expected, and we’d love to help you get things running smoothly again.
Could you, please, share links to the websites that are not working properly? We will look into the issues ASAP.
We truly value your past work with Kubio and hope we can restore your confidence in the product.
Best regards,
Horea Radu
CEO and Co-founder @ Kubio“I’d like to clarify that there haven’t been any significant changes to the Hero section” – I worked with 2.3.. what was totally different as Kubio is now. What you have now is a editable WordPress Theme, not a website design tool as it once was. The moment I can’t build with an editor what I want to build but get forced to build what the tool wants to build.. I have an issue with it. Is like to start a CAD program and it tell you: You can select a cone pointing up, down, left or right. I want to build a cylinder shaped object and get as answer: So what cone will it be?
When you design a website, you do not start with starting the Theme and edit it, you make a concept, prepare the texts and display content for the site, then realize the site depending to the concept. I loved the OLD Kubio, because it gave me the freedom to do what I want.. now I couldn’t even get a blank canvas. I more or less lost my shit when I deleted everything on the Home, saved it, went to get me a coffee and pressed ‘edit’ on Home -> and your moronic tool added everything I just deleted again. I tried for 2 hours to get a full screen picture only as home. Came always up with this hero layout BS. Started ChatGPT and asked what is going on and got told that I can’t do that anymore with Kubio. And I am not the only one with that issue.. Kubio tells you what you have to do.. not lets you design what you want to do. Next question was: What do I install to get the old Gutenberg design options? If you want the old Kubio functionality, install Kadence Theme and Kadence Blocks (if the reader has the same issues).
Uninstalled Kubio installed the suggested Theme and Plugin and a few seconds later I had what I wanted a 4kx4k picture as Home, fixed on position and scroll over. The picture is a tinyJPG, so just 400k in size and not 2mb like a normal JPG, hence loads very fast. Adding rows and content is a copy/past and quick upload from the design folder with the prepared material.. how Kubio used to be.
I get the point, you had people contacting you that Kubio is to complicated.. but instead of changing Kubio to a editable Theme, you should have told them to go and look for a preset WordPress theme, there are enough to choose from. I wouldn’t call Kubio a Gutenberg Site editor anymore. Is more something for people who want to build a website, have no idea what they actually want and build it by trying and throwing content together. Main issue, with the limitation now, you will be able to say: Ohh, that is a Kubio site.. what throws it in the same pot as other websites. The more original a site is, the more attention it will get. The game site has a bookmark ratio of 99.6%, for every 1000 people visiting it, only 4 do not bookmark it.Is plain sad when you see a developer ruining his own product because it has to be a jack of all trades.. there is no such software. I will stick to Kadence.. and hope they keep it what is has to be: a design tool to realize what you have in your head and not the tool telling you what it has to look like.
Hi @jdilling ,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’d really like to understand what made you feel Kubio changed for the worse, it helps us see things from your perspective.
I’ve attached two screenshots comparing the hero settings in version 2.3 and the current one:

https://www.loom.com/i/0b2772e7dfe94f77b4b95895645f82a2From our side, the editor hasn’t changed much, but I completely understand how small adjustments can feel significant depending on how you use the tool. Here’s also a short video (18s) showing how to set a full-screen hero image only on the homepage:
https://www.loom.com/share/fe2492a4cfde41dab9ce2a8f3431e265It’s possible the confusion comes from the editor showing content options when the hero is empty — those are just suggestions and not required. To make this clearer, we’ve already added a “close” button in today’s update.
Appreciate your time and your openness in sharing this, it really helps us improve.Best regards,
