In the latest update one of the highlighted features is:

    • Connect block attributes with custom fields via UI.

This sounds incredible and exactly like one of the updates I’ve been waiting on WordPress to get, but when I go into a post and enable the “Attributes” section in the right side panel none of my custom fields show up as options to dynamically display as post content. Similarly, I don’t see a way to add dynamic content to query loops blocks. I’m not using special or custom blocks.

If this update is something different I’d love to know what other “UI” it’s referring to or what this feature is meant to do. Because from my understanding it sounds like an addition to the block editor that allows someone to choose which blocks are dynamically populated from which custom fields, and this is the kind of functionality I’m waiting for to take the block editor to the next level! 🎉

  • Hi!

I can’t answer this question exactly, but I want to draw your attention to the fact that now in the admin panel in the SCF tab there is a menu “Beta Features”, and there is the only checkbox that is apparently related to this functionality.

If you haven’t seen this, try to enable this feature and see again whether this is what you thought.

    Hi there!

The new beta feature allows to connect paragraph, buttons, images and headings to custom fields. But it is only available for posts and custom post types. This means it won’t work (yet) for templates or query loops.

You can see a video of the feature in its respective Github Pull Request. (link)

    You need to enable:

    • Show in REST API at Group Settings level.
    • Allow Access to Value in Editor UI at Field Level. (Presentation).

@yanmetelitsa @cbravobernal thanks so much to both of you, I’ll look into these things and check back in if I have further issues. I didn’t realize this was a beta feature because the changelog didn’t mention that.
