Web story image crashing error:

When I upload an image in my web story, it’s not working. It gave me this code after few clicks.

Hi there

When you say “a few clicks”, can you please describe exactly the steps that you take to trigger this error?

In your duplicate topic you also mentioned the “Failed to save the story the response is not a valid json response” error. To debug that one, please follow the following steps:
1. Open the Web Stories editor
2. Open your browser’s developer tools (Ctrl/Cmd + I or press F12)
3. Switch to the Network tab and filter by XHR and “web-stories”
4. Then try to save the story to trigger the issue. It should look like this: https://i.imgur.com/9C5B4l3.png
5. Click on the entry that should have been added to the list after the click. Then select “Response”. It should look like this: https://i.imgur.com/mViRq6v.png

Hi, thanks for the response.

I did what you told me to do, and I couldn’t find any particular error or whatever it’s showing looks like an error. But, I’m sharing with you my screenshot and see if you can understand anything.

Steps I took before I saw the error:

1. Open a Web story editor,

2. Apply a .png image to the canvas as ‘display as background’.

3. Apply the Cover using premade texts(template) in the cover section for Title.

So, if you apply the cover text/title in the first page, then it won’t even take you to the next page. But, if you didn’t add any text/title in the first page and just keep the image itself, then, you are able to add another image in the 2nd page as you can see in the screenshot(if you can) but, It’s not reacting though. When I click ‘Apply as background’ it’s not responding, but if I click ‘Insert image’ it’s coming into 2nd page but, not moving anywhere or not even responding either and if I click few times on the image, then it’s showing the error code which you can see in the forum.

Note: I can’t use premade Web story templates as well. When I click Explore Templates and click ‘Use Template’ on one of the template, it says ‘Unable to create story from template’

Unfortunately I don’t see any screenshots… File uploads aren’t possible in the forums so you need to upload to Google Drive or Imgur and share the link here. You can even record a screencast, that makes things easier to follow.

Note: I can’t use premade Web story templates as well. When I click Explore Templates and click ‘Use Template’ on one of the template, it says ‘Unable to create story from template’

Interesting. Could you share similar steps for this scenario as well?

5. Then click on “Use template” to trigger the issue.

Well, it doesn’t say anything like you mentioned but, it does say ‘Forbidden’ after clicking on web-story(use template button). Please check out the attachment.

That’s very helpful, thank you!

This “Forbidden” is coming from your server, i.e. a web application firewall or so.

I see that you are on Hostinger. Their CDN offering has caused issues with Web Stories users in the past, so I recommend temporarily disabling that and reach out to their support if needed.

Well, I guess you’re right though. The issue is about CDN. I asked Hostinger to resolve this issue and they did something to clear this mess but, nothing worked. So, I have decided to disable my Hostinger CDN and tried. Guess what, It worked. I can work on my web story whether by using ‘Creating from templates or Manual. And, I tried to re-enable my CDN after the web story is open and neatly running in editor, it’s still working and I’m able to save the story now. I don’t how much time it works with this solution. But for now, the problem is solved, ‘at least for me’. Cheers.
