Hi @maybandy,

Thanks for your post! These warnings mean UpdraftPlus found some very large files in wp-content/uploads/wp-staging/backups/ that are too big to reliably include in the backup.

If you don’t need to back up these .wpstg files, we recommend excluding that folder in UpdraftPlus > Settings > Exclude these files from the backup.

Hi,

Great question! The .wpstg files are backups created by the WP Staging plugin and not by UpdraftPlus. They’re not part of your live WordPress site—they’re just staging site snapshots. Excluding them won’t affect your actual website content, database, plugins, or uploads.

I put split archives option to 100MB

I removed .wpstg. I think? See below.

If you don’t need to back up these .wpstg files, we recommend excluding that folder in UpdraftPlus > Settings > Exclude these files from the backup.

I removed:

backup*
backups backwpup
wp-clone
snapshots

If everything I did is correct, I’m still getting error file to large.

Hi @maybandy,

The log shows that the .wpstg file is still being included in the backup despite the warning. That means UpdraftPlus is still attempting to back up this large file, which can affect backup performance or result in warnings.

To help us check your current settings, could you please send us a screenshot of the “Exclude these files from the backup” section under: UpdraftPlus > Settings

Hi,

In your screenshot, you are looking at excluding files from “Others” rather than “uploads” (the Uploads is just above this)

If you select the option to exclude file directory navigate to the file policecrimes.com_20250609-132556_d33a47d2dd8d.wpstg and add this this

The full directory of the file is uploads/wp-staging/backups/policecrimes.com_20250609-132556_d33a47d2dd8d.wpstg
