Variable content to selection?
-
Is there any way to target a selected item to show the related posts to the selected term? I am trying to put it in my drop down menu and would love it to show most recent posts of “Weddings” when weddings is selected and most recent “personal” when personal is selected

Hello,
@nicoleamanda I am not 100% sure what do you mean. But there is an option to limit posts to a specific term / taxonomy or even a meta key: https://www.screencast.com/t/kuqwMz41.
What kind of dropdown do you have and how is your site setup? Are you listing posts on a separate page after each selection?
Or do you select a term from somewhere and expect it to alter the post listing?
Sincerely,
RafałYes, I think the later. If you visit my website and see the little arrow beside “blog” the menu drops down. If you. Select “Personal” then a side menu jets out. I’d love for whichever item is ‘selected’ (personal, weddings, education, business) to show that category of newest posts if that makes sense.
Perfect!
And where would selecting a “category” lead to or what page would it alter?
For the time being each selected leads to a non plugin category page: http://nicoleamanda.ca/blog/weddings/wedding-photos/
Sincerely,
RafałYes, it will still lead to the designated category. I would just like to gave the Recent Posts plugin display where the “Hightlighed Posts” feature currently is, and change upon initial selection (non page change, just menu change).
I see.
I don’t think this will work w/o you providing me the login details and checking the installation. Additionally this may require some extra work…
I think given wordpress.org forum terms I could help you out for free if the problem wouldn’t require any extra coding work.
Sincerely,
RafałAnd please don’t post them in a public message here 🙂
I am going to sleep as it’s nearly midnight here in Poland.
Sincerely,
RafałMy website isn’t 100% wordpress, it’s kind of a mcgivered wordpress/showit. I know a little bit of coding. I was just wondering if there was a small piece of code that fit in the keyword target spot or something.
Hmm!
Well you could always use a Category / Tag / Term setting from the Appearance -> Widget -> List multiple widgets via shortcodes within the top menu -> add containers to each of the shortcodes with only one of them being visible by default.
Then you could use jQuery to reveal each box on left menu hover trigger.
Does it help, even a bit? 🙂
Sincerely,
Rafał-

Unless the top area is already placed with Shortcodes… Sorry for mixing up so much!
Time to go to bed 🙂
Hopefully you’ll manage to sort this one out!
If not I’ll check back tomorrow,
Sincerely,
RafałHaha thanks so much. Showit doesn’t allow for shortcodes so I’ll have to see if I can hide them in sidebars then pull them over. I’ll play around, thanks for the idea!
😉
Use the Sidebar id for .css and .js to to identify them probably!
Keeeping my fingers crossed ZzzzZz,
Good luck,
Rafał 😉 -
