Username cannot be empty
-
Hi there,
Working on building a registration form and although I’ve entered a valid username it seems that it is not recognizing it and I keep getting the error “Username cannot be empty”. For whatever reason it works when I’m logged in under my administrator account, if that helps at all.
Thank you!

I was able to come to a resolution.
I was using “Name” field both username and first/last name. I replaced the “Name” field for Username with Text Input and it seems to work fine now.
Hello @mjeason12
I hope all is well!
Thank you for letting us know that you’ve solved the issue! Glad to know that all is well!
Cheers,
NastiaHello @wpmudev-support9 and @mjeason12 I have the problem too. Can you tell me how to fix it? I can not understand your resolution.
ThanksI don’t remember entirely what the problem looked like. If you provide a link to the page or picture of your form editor I might be able to help.

NastiaHi, I have this same issue with a new form. First time using the plugin and i’m lost.
The error is: The username can not be empty.
I used a registration form template. I have no need to have a username field, just a name field so I know who the person is. I type my name and other info to test, but the error keeps coming up. I replaced the Name field with another name field and the same thing happens. I am not sure how to implement the solution above or if it pertains to my exact situation. I am using the single option as don’t need a surname etc.
Could anyone shed some light please. Page link is http://staging8.mattanderson.co.nz/training/
BTW, I’m posting in this thread as I am not able to post a new topic at the moment.
Thanks,
Maarten-

Hi Maarten,
As far as I’m aware the registration form is really only if you want the user to be creating a “login-able” account on your website and is probably why you’re getting the error on the registration form. For your purposes, you could probably just use a contact form and customize the rest to fit your current needs; you could also add stripe or paypal field to the form if you’re wanting to include purchasing on contact.
This is my guess at least.
Thanks @mjeason12 I struggled with it for a while and ended up coming to the same conclusion. It is a bit strange to me that there are hidden fields(so to speak) that users can’t see. I did loo in the code from the export in the end, was a clue you gave me after reading your fix a few times, and there was username stuff in there relating to fields as well as email notifications. I would have thought that when building a form you should be able to see all the info, even if it is a template.
Thanks so much for your response, and confirming my suspicions.
Hi @maartymaart
I hope you’re well today!
The error happens not because of hidden fields but because it’s a standard user-account registration form and and it hooks to standard/core WP registration process which requires username to be submitted. A user account cannot be created/registered without username.
The “hidden stuff” in export is related to error messages, e-mail notifications and validation but even if it wasn’t there, WordPress wouldn’t let you successfully register account that way unless registration process is customized.
If it is and you want/need to check if Forminator form can be made to work with it, please create a separate topic on this support forum about it and we’ll look into it.
Best regards,
