It seems that every existing user automatically becomes assigned to one of the 4 forum-roles:
normal
mod
admin
banned
this leads to the described situation that all our customers end up on the forums-member-list although they never subsribed to the forum.
How can we fix that?

Asgaros Forum is a WordPress plugin and uses the user-management of WordPress. Thats why every WordPress user on your website is a potential forum-user as well.
If you want to hide the memberslist, you can deactivate it in the forum-settings.
If you want to make the forum only accessible for certain users, you can user the forum-usergroups to prevent public access to certain categories.
The forum itself can also be placed on a page which is only accessible for certain users. How you handle it depends on your current website-configuration and access-management.

i am quite lost actually
1: I added a usergroup but i dont see any way how to add users to that group
SOLVED – can be done by bulk edit
2: I dont find a way to say “reading for everyone / posting only if registered”
SOLVED – category is responsible for reading permission
This one is still an issue
3: there is some strange behaviour regarding “memberlist” and “register”.
would you mind have a look at this screencast?

Tritt dieses Problem auf, nachdem du die Mitgliederliste in den Einstellungen deaktiviert hast?
Falls ja: Verwendest du ein Caching-Plugin? In diesem Fall kann es sein, dass noch eine alte Version im Cache liegt, welches einen Link zur Mitgliederliste enthält. In diesem Fall solltest du Caching für die Seite, die den Forum-Shortcode enthält, deaktivieren.

das mit dem “Mitglieder”-Button hat sich inzwischen gelöst.
Was aber noch nicht geklärt ist, ist der letzte Part im Video: Das man zu einem Sicherheitsabfragefenster gelangt, wenn man versucht sich anzumelden.
In der htaccess haben wir einen Verzeichnisschutz für den Zugriff auf /wp-admin bzws auf wp-login.php angelegt der auf unserer Produktivseite auch funktioniert – dort melden sich ja auch Leute bem Kauf eines Produktes an, ohne in diesen Fehler zu laufen.

Greifen deine Benutzer bei einer normalen Registrierung auch auf die Standard-wp-login Datei zu? Falls ja muss deine eigene Verzeichnisregel möglicherweiße noch um irgendwas ergänzt werden damit es funktioniert – da es aber eine eigene Modifikation ist kann ich dazu leider keine spezifische Hilfe anbieten.
Asgaros Forum ermittelt die Registrierungs/Login-URL über eine WordPress-Core Funktion – modifiziert wird in diesem Bereich von meiner Seite aus gar nichts. Deswegen wundert mich, dass es nicht funktioniert. Möglicherweiße funkt auch ein anderes Plugin noch dazwischen.
