I also get:
Update Failed: Download failed. Unauthorized
Hi! I also updated it, but didnt get a message, that the download failed, but since the update my yoast is not working. Using the newest PHP version and the newest wordpress version. It’s just blank and I can neither fill in meta data or set a keyword or have access to the readability. What could I do?
Best to learn to update via FTP as safest way, as local server permissions, CurL/FTP timeouts, etc. can cause auto-install/updates to fail due to old folder having to be removed first, then download new version, then install new version — or not in that order, but you get the idea.
Safest method is to via FTP delete old wordpress-seo plugin folder, then upload NEW version via FTP software. Safe, clean. Works.
Then do “resave permalinks” and ideally clear transients with WP-Optimize or similar; clear caching if using any such.
@riennl A plugin cannot be installed if the folder already exists. This happens when the plugin is already installed, if a file is missing or corrupt, or if you have renamed the wp-content folder. Please manually install via FTP as @neotrope stated.
