Unconfirmed and Wanguard

Hi, Some of my activation emails are being caught in spam (not a huge number just a few with academic institution email addresses). These same accounts are often flagged up by wanguard as spam, if I then mark them as not spam, they then disappear from my unconfirmed list. Is that intended behaviour? If I avoid unmarking them as spam would that affect their activation if they do manage to track down their email in their spam file? Thanks for the help.
