Unable to create galleries
-
I deleted the plugin, cleaned database and made a fresh install. It worked fine, apart from the fact that it won’t keep galleries I create. Not even import from server is supported.
-
I notice that after installation this plugin doesn’t create the three usual database tables. ngg_album, ngg_gallery or ngg_pictures. Does that give you a clue?
I have now tried to delete and reinstall the plugin several times. Same response: Unable to import images or create galleries.
Hey @sandalsand,
Thank you for reaching out!
Could you clarify what you mean by “cleaning the database”? Did you remove the whole
ngg_album,ngg_gallery, andngg_picturestables, or just their contents? Please remember that removing entries or the entire
ngg_album,ngg_gallery, andngg_picturestables will delete all your galleries and albums. Be sure to approach this with care.Normally, these tables are automatically created by NextGEN Gallery when activated. If they’re not appearing, please clear all caches, including any object caches, and then deactivate and reactivate the NextGEN Gallery plugin to see if this resolves the issue.
Let me know what happens!
Thanks,
MihaiI made use of an old and offline installation so there was never any real danger. I tried a couple of times more and finally succeeded. The plugin is now up and running. Yes, I know that everything gets deleted so this was kind of a last resort.
However, the reason I did this was that I’m getting these lines up when I look into the table view of the WP-Optimize plugin:
“Known plugins that use this table name:
nextgen-gallery
nextcellent-gallery-nextgen-legacy [not installed]”It occurs on all three NGG tables.
I wanted to get rid of the annoying “nextcellent” bit, and have been for several years. I installed it many years ago, for some reason, and then deleted it. It resides somewhere in the database. So I went the hard way and tried to completely delete everything about NGG Gallery.
Now your plugin is back and working, but that “nextcellent” has also returned. Would you happen to know where it is, and how I can get rid of it?
Hi @sandalsand ,
Thank you for the additional information—it really helps clarify the situation.
It’s unusual that WP Optimize indicates those tables are used by both NextGEN Gallery and NextCellent Gallery, the latter being an unsupported legacy branch of NextGEN Gallery. Could you please double-check to ensure NextCellent Gallery is not present in your site’s
wp-content/pluginsdirectory?Additionally, this might be a false positive from WP Optimize, possibly due to caching from when NextCellent Gallery was previously installed or just due to an outdated associative library that they have for the table names. To clarify this, you could reach out to the WP Optimize support team for more insights, as this does indeed seem to be a misunderstanding.
Please let us know what you find out from WP Optimize.
Best regards,
Mihai
This was their response:
“On checking again, you cannot remove the “nextcellent-gallery-nextgen-legacy [not installed]” comment, as this is an output from the WPO’s built-in table/plugin identifier.
The identifier does not rely on having a plugin installed before it can determine which plugin(s) make use of a particular table.
In your case, both the NextGEN and nextcellent gallery plugins are known users of the *_ngg_* tables, hence the comments.”
So, I rest my case. Seems I will have to live with it.
Hi @sandalsand,
Thanks for keeping us informed.
It seems they have an internal associative array of possible related plugins with specific table names. You can safely ignore the message, and rest assured, you don’t need to rebuild your database because of it.
Best regards,
MihaiHi @sandalsand ,
We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist further, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
Thanks!
