Unable to access akismet settings
-
I’ve just installed askismet, but when I click on settings I get an error message “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.”
What is the readon for this?
Thanks
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

That would imply that you’re logged in with a user account that is not an administrator. If you are an administrator, I’d try logging out and then back in again.
Thanks. I was logged in as an admin. I have logged out and back in again as an admin, and it’s made no difference. I’ve also logged in as admin on my phone and tried from there – still get the same error.
Oh, I just noticed the URL is plugins.php instead of admin.php, which explains the error. Which settings link did you click on? It should either be /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=akismet-key-config (if you don’t have Jetpack installed) or /wp-admin/admin.php?page=akismet-key-config (if you do have Jetpack installed).
If you have any other plugins installed that modify the menus, that might be the culprit.
Thanks.
The url is the same for both the Settings and your Akismet Settings page links below

I have tried your suggested url and that made no difference.
Will try deactivating plugins one by one later.
So going to /wp-admin/admin.php?page=akismet-key-config still shows you the “Sorry, […]” error message?
Yes, unfortunately. Both the ‘with Jetpack’ url and the ‘without Jetpack’ url report the same error.
The Elementor family of plugins that we’re using, settings url /wp-admin/admin.php?page=xxx, also report the same error.
But the Contact7 settings url /wp-admin/admin.php?page=xxx does work!
Wary of deactivating plugins on the live site in case they don’t work when reactivated…
If you’re able to just post a list of the plugins you have installed, I can try reproducing this problem on a test site.
Thanks Christopher. These are all active:
Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection 5.3.7
Classic Editor 1.6.7
Contact Form 7 6.0.6
Elementor 3.28.4
Essential Addons for Elementor 6.1.11
Premium Addons for Elementor 4.11.5
Templately 3.2.5
Ultimate Addons for Elementor Lite 2.3.0
These are inactive:
Auto temp link 0.0.3 (a plugin from my hosting provider 34sp.com)
WP Fingerprint 2.1.2 (a plugin from my hosting provider 34sp.com)Thanks, I’ll investigate.
I’ve been unable to reproduce it by installing those extensions. What I’d recommend next is either:
- Create a brand new administrator account and log in with that and see if that account is able to access the Akismet settings page.
- Disable plugins one by one and see if that has any effect.
I created a new admin account, logged in using the new account and was able to access the Akismet settings page. Success! Thanks for your help.
Marking as resolved.
The plugin usually works well, but on https://fixingup.co.uk/ and https://www.glassexpert.co.uk/, aksimet settings are not accessible few month, spam keep coming especially on the last one
@jane4jane I don’t see any record of those two sites registering with Akismet. If you can’t reach the Akismet setup page, can you try following the steps in the above thread to see if that helps?
