Trailer Logic Errors
-
I know there have been several recent updates to the trailer logic in the past week, but there are still issues plus there remains a long-standing bug with
<itunes:episodeType>.
I’ve confirmed all of this is (still) true with the current, 10.0.7 build of Powerpress.
1. Trailer bug: If there is no episode marked as Trailer (inEpisode Description > See More Settings > Type > Trailer), then the most recent episode marked as “Full Episode” in the same place becomes set as<podcast:trailer>.
Definitely related is number 2 here, which has been an issue for a LONG time:
2. The “full episode” inconsistency bug: The only way to get<itunes:episodeType>full</itunes:episodeType>to appear in the <item> section for a show’s feed is to set the Type to “Full Episode”. Leaving it at “Full (default)” omits ANY<itunes:episodeType>tag from appearing for that<item>.
This is a huge issue, of course, because Apple subscriptions matches the RSS feed on the<itunes:episodeType>tag along with<itunes:episode>and, if it exists,<itunes:season>. But I can 100% confirm that if<itunes:episodeType>is missing, then Apple Subscriptions will NOT match and will, instead, post a duplicate episode to subscribers’ feeds.
Because of that, I have to manually set every episode to Type: Full Episode in order to get that<itunes:episodeType>tag to appear and, then, because of the first bug I mentioned, PowerPress (now) makes that episode the trailer, too.
Hopefully this is enough detail for y’all to replicate and resolve, but obviously please feel free to reach out if not. Thanks!
