Hi,
No, the free plugin doesn’t track or store visitors.
The PRO version has a link manager, which stores IP and Browser version of visitors and when clicking a button. It’s on purpose a non-intrusive lightweight to see what buttons are often used. It’s in no way close to more famous trackers.
( I just put a ticket to allow it to be disabled, I think you have a good point that a site owner should decide if it works or not ) .
Hi Bas. Thanks.
Not sure if I asked the right question. I read that some plugins like this track for their own benefit. For instance:
Simple Share Buttons Adder
TRACKING
This plugin works great but the developers are so greedy. It has a huge pile of trackers that collect visitor information and sends them to third party companies. I know you want to make money from your hard work but why not have a single tracker that collects the data that you need and forwards it to other third-party companies that pay you for that? I counted over 10 trackers and it's so disgusting that it affects page speed performance. Checking the support forum and I found a ton of people complaining about. You have even blocked the ability to share images and links on this forum so that users can highlight this problem. STOP IT!
No, none of our plugins do this.
This would also be against the plugin guidelines for hosting on WP.org. See number 7: https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-org/detailed-plugin-guidelines/ , so do report if you see plugins on this site doing tracking without consent.
Thank you.
It seems entirely right that this kind of thing would be against the rules. But two or three are doing it going by the reviews on their relevant pages.
BTW Max Buttons is superb.
FYI For stupid first time users a bit more help might be helpful. I took some time making an email button not realising that the standard buttons for share are all there already. Doh!
