Tiled Gallery Not Full Width

    Eighteen months ago, I was having an issue with captions in Tiled Galleries, and I was recommended a ‘workaround’ involving using the Classic Editor block. It worked! But the full discussion on that topic is here, for context.

    Recently I have had to deactivate all plugins in order to troubleshoot an unrelated issue. On reactivating slowly, I now have an issue were the workaround above still works for captions, but now shunts a gallery off to the side, only taking up about a third of the page on the left-hand side of the screen. You can see an example of this here.

    These galleries used to display full-width by default, now I can’t make them any wider than 500px. Does anyone know why this would be?

    Hello there, 
    Sebastian from Jetpack here. I hope you are doing well.

    I reviewed the page you mentioned, https://www.manek.org.uk/studio, but the gallery is loading correctly for me on Chrome and Firefox. I also tested on an Android mobile phone with Chrome, and I could not see any issues.

    If this is still happening could you share an example?
    Also please try with another browser or an incognito window.

    Hi again,

    It looks like I misread your question, and you need to make the Tile gallery full-width. You can add a custom CSS like the next one:

    .wp-block-group.alignwide.is-layout-flow.wp-block-group-is-layout-flow{
    max-width: 100% !important;
}

    Thank you, I shall try that!

    The reason the ‘Studio’ page displayed a full-width gallery is that I got fed up of not being able to fix it and started experimenting with a different gallery plugin which would fill the width of the page (but which has other issues in the way captions and controls display). If I can now revert to the Tiled Gallery and use your CSS to make it fill the page, that will be ideal! Thank you.

    Unfortunately this has not made any difference. The gallery is still all squeezed up on the left…

    Hi @manek43509,

    I am unable to replicate this issue. Can you please tell if it happens when using a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty Four for example, as well?

    I am very reluctant to do that, as this issue appeared out of thin air after I had deactivated and reactivated plugins in order to troubleshoot a different issue. Who knows what new problem would pop up elsewhere on the site if I go through all that again chasing the tail of this thing?

    Hi @manek4350,

    I see where your concern is coming from, so we respect you’re not willing to test that in your production site.

    Since we’re unable to replicate this on our end and you don’t want to do these tests on your live site, many hosts provide a staging service, where you can do testing without affecting the live site. You can ask your host about this. If they don’t give you a staging site, you could try WP Staging or Duplicator:

    Apologies, I haven’t had a chance to look at this again yet. As you can see from my website I am a working musician and I am currently part-way through a six-week international tour, so my opportunities to get online and sort things like this have been fairly limited.
