Sub-directory without Multisite?

First of all, forgive me for being a newb. I have tried to do my homework on this but am still stumped.

So far the closest I have come to this is:

I tried changing the Site address to http://www.mysite.com – which moves the jobs manager directory to where I want it (www.mysite.com/jobs – however it is not functional). But when I go to http://www.mysite.com/blog I get “Not Found”. I’m guessing this happens because there is no WordPress index.php file at http://www.mysite.com – but I can’t put it there because it will overwrite my index.php (don’t want WordPress managing anything besides http://www.mysite.com/jobs and http://www.mysite.com/blog).

Do I have to create a network of sites (Multisites) to achieve this? Would another solution be to use WordPress to manage the entire site?

you could put a separate install in /blog and /jobs
and link to each other…
or multisite would also work

Hi Max625,

It looks like the Jobs Manager plugin automatically creates that jobs page. Even if you created a subdomain like jobs.yoursite.com and installed WordPress there, you’d end up with http://www.jobs.yoursite.com/jobs as the URL to your jobs area.

Unless you want to try to do some masking with .htaccess, looks like using WordPress for your entire site would be the way to go.

That seems like a reasonable solution. I understand how I would do the separate installs. Based on a quick review of the link and those found in “Other Resources” at the bottom of the page – it seems the linking can get a bit hairy. In your experience – is managing the link between the separate installs a reasonable endeavor?

I have “shared” web hosting rented out with a third party – so if I understand correctly the multisite isn’t an option as you need to be able to edit httpd.conf.

you can easily create a faux page for your main menus to link to each install and use this plugin

masking with .htaccess
I’ve got some background with apache – but wouldn’t consider myself an expert. Seems like I could probably give this a shot. Will job manager still function properly if I implement the masking (I’ll assume you wouldn’t have suggested it in the first place if the answer was no :P)?

WordPress as CMS for entire site
This seems like a decent idea. I wanted to add a WordPress managed news feed page (currently updating it manually via hard-coding html) anyways. That way I could add a widget to the homepage sidebar that shows recent news, blogs, and jobs (doing that manually right now too). The question is – how daunting of a task is switching over 100 pages?

Based on what I have read – it is possible to have different widgets show up on the side bar for different pages, so I’m guessing I could preserve the functionality of our current sidebar.

The idea seems promising though as the CMS we had planned on using for the rest of the pages has issues.

Hello again Max625,

I can’t guarantee that masking the URL through .htaccess will not cause issues with your plugin, but it’s worth a try. Of course, make a back up copy of your .htaccess file before making any changes to it. WordPress may not work correctly if anything is amiss in .htaccess.
