Hi,
1. Can i import the entire DB? or do i need to do it one table at a time
Yes, you can import the entire DB at once. Just pack all your script files into one ZIP file and upload the ZIP file from the Data Explorer (button “Import data/Execute script(s)”). To upload ZIP files your installation requires PHP ZipArchive to be installed. The plugin checks the availability of Zip Archive and lets you know if it is available.
Please make sure your SQL statements end with a semi colon + a next line. You can write multiple SQL statements in one script. You should be able to export from phpMyAdmin and import with the Data Explorer. You can also export from the Data Explorer and import with phpMyAdmin. It that case however, you need to disable checkbox “Export with variable WP prefix” in Manage Plugin > Back-end Settings.
2. should i merge the new DB with the WordPress Database or can i define a new DB, however later i want to allow access to the new DB based on user-level so ill need access to wp_users.
Interesting question! 😉 At this time part of the plugin is available for other databases, but not all. With this version you cannot create a Data Project or a publication in another database. For now I think it’s best to store your tables in the WordPress schema and use some naming convention.
There are some videos that explain how to get started with a Data Project, but I have to improve the documentation. Other users have asked for this as well…
For that reason I moved the whole documentation to a public website. You can find the video tutotials here: https://wpdataaccess.com/docs/documentation/data-projects/video-tutorials/. I hope this help you, but it will not answer all your questions. This is my next challenge! 🙂
I hope you’ll get it to work. Let me know if you need more help!
Best regards,
Peter
