Specifically adding this part to functions.php:

}
add_filter('metaslider_resized_image_url', 'metaslider_protocol_relative_urls', 10, 2);

@particularlyevil it looks like your issue is with jQuery:

(index):1 Mixed Content: The page at 'https://bergen.edu/home/' was loaded over HTTPS, but requested an insecure script 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.0/jquery.min.js?ver=4.8.2'. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
