    Hi Wordfence

I have one user as editor that simply cannot activate 2FA which is required for her editor role, hence, we are cycling in extended grace period, again and again.

    Background

This is a multisite install. This site #5 was initiated as a subsite for go/no go evaluation where this user registered. Then it was altered to a top level site dot com. Everyone else registers fine and correct. This first user then was registered on site #1 and then correctly on site #5. As editor, she then had backend access on number. This is fixed and she is removed from #1 but still editor on #2.

When she tries to activate 2FA, she scans QR, enters the code given and then a pop-up says that another user bla bla, so there is a conflict with history of this profile. I simply cannot figure why this is and what is causing it. How can I force a fix on this? Can I as admin activate and overwrite, so that it is just active. Can I give clearance for this user on all platforms? How

    Thx

Hi @hebhansen, thank-you for getting in touch.

This is slightly confusing as Wordfence offering a QR code at all means the user doesn’t have 2FA yet. It wouldn’t present at all if the plugin thought they were already registered elsewhere with 2FA, rather than offering an error message when it was attempted.

I believe you have asked about multisite before and seen the documentation, so unless Wordfence is installed on individual sites rather than the main site, I don’t think there would be an issue with the user already having 2FA for that reason either.

Could we see a screenshot of the pop-up? The "pop-up says that another user..." message seems like another plugin or browser extension interfering but we could learn a bit more from seeing that. Feel free to send over diagnostics of the site experiencing the issues for this user to wftest @ wordfence . com by finding the link at the top of the Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

NOTE: It should look as follows – Screenshot of Tools > Diagnostic > Send by Email

    Many thanks,

    hi @wfpeter

let me elaborate in case others find themselves in same situation. As described above, this is a historic test profile, that stretched across main site and later the site 5 it was actually supposed to manage.

I have deleted this profile, without deleting it’s content. Transferred the content to admin. Created a New profile, that now behaves normal. This user has now activated 2FA with no issues, so problem sorted.

finally rôles and rights are re-established and all issues for this user are now gone.

I will mark as solved, and thx again!
