It seems Strato is refusing my SFTP connection; via Filezilla I have access with the same username and password. Any idea how I can change that?

I get the following error (I blanked (xxxxxxxxx) the server ID number)

    • PHP event: code E_WARNING: fsockopen(): Unable to connect to xxxxxxxxx.ssh.w2.strato.hosting:22 (Connection refused) (line 1358, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/vendor/phpseclib/phpseclib/phpseclib/Net/SSH2.php)
    • PHP event: code E_USER_NOTICE: Cannot connect to xxxxxxxxx.ssh.w2.strato.hosting:22. Error 111. Connection refused (line 1361, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/vendor/phpseclib/phpseclib/phpseclib/Net/SSH2.php)

    Hi @thegentatwpforum,

    Thanks for your message.

The error shows that the SFTP connection to port 22 is being refused. Since FileZilla works, it’s likely that:

    • Strato uses a different port for SFTP (check with their support).
    • They may block PHP-based connections, like those from UpdraftPlus.

You can try switching to FTP or FTPS, or ask Strato if they allow PHP-based SFTP access and what port to use.

    Best Wishes,
    Bryle
