Setting page not appearing
-
Hi there,
I’ve installed Snowball and for some reason the setting page is blank. When I add a new article, all the changes are gone too once i click “Update”. eg. I added splash screen, text, title etc and it’s gone the moment I clicked “Update”.
Any ideas?
I’m testing it in a standard twenty thirteen theme.
Thank you,
Rocky

Hi Rocky,
Thanks for getting in touch. The settings page currently does not have any options, though we may add some there in the future. For now, settings are on a per article basis.
You can click the cog button in the top right of your post to access the options: http://i.imgur.com/WhHzFpl.png
We’ve tested Snowball with the Twenty Thirteen theme and it’s working ok on our end. What browser/OS are you on?
Thanks,
TomHi Tom,
Thanks for replying.
I’m using Windows and have tested this in Firefox and Chrome (all latest versions). So the steps I took:
1. Install a fresh wordpress site
2. Use a standard Twenty Thirteen theme
3. Install and activate Snowball. FYI this is the only installed plugin on the site
4. Click ‘add new article’ from the snowball menu
5. Add splash screen, text, image etc
6. Previewing works, but when you click ‘update’ then nothing happens and everything that you’ve added (splash screen, text etc) will be goneThanks,
RockyHi Rocky, thanks for the details. I followed your steps but wasn’t able to replicate the problem. For the test, I set up a VM with Windows 8.1, fresh installed WordPress 4.4, and served it using XAMPP 3.2.2. A few questions…
1. Are you also serving WP from Windows, or using a web host? If you’re serving, what server software are you using? What version of Windows are you on?
2. If you have access to the PHP logs, can you copy & paste any errors related to Snowball? For example if you’re using XAMPP to serve WordPress, you can find the logs at xampp\php\logs\php_error_log
3. After you click “Publish” or “Update” and nothing happens, can you check Chrome DevTools or Firefox Inspector and see if there are any errors in the browser console?
Thanks.
Hi Thomas,
1. I am using a webhost.
2. I don’t have access to that unfortunately, but I’ll check with my hosting provider
3. There are no errors in the consoleLooks like a great plugin so I’m really keen to get this working π I’ll install it on my localhost using XAMPP and Windows 8.1 too and report back.
Cheers
Hi again,
So i’ve installed a fresh WordPress 4.4 using WAMP. Then installed snowball > added new article > added splash screen + text > clicked update > the splash screen + text gone.
There are no errors in the php log either so not sure how to debug the issue. Or would you like me to give you a login to the site?
Cheers,
RockyI’m glad you were able to replicate the issue on WAMP, at least that gets us closer to pinning it down!
Yes, could you give me login to the site? You can email me at [email protected].
Hi Thomas,
Ok this is getting interesting. I’ll try my best to explain this, it might have something to do with browser.
So for example if I add a ‘splash screen’ using Firefox and click update, it will be gone. But using Chrome is fine, the ‘splash screen’ still stays after I click update which is good.
Now if go back to Firefox and edit that article I just created, the ‘splash screen’ is still there but whatever edit I did will not be saved. eg, I add a text field below the splash screen, when I click update the splash screen stays but the new text field is gone. Does this make sense?
Anyway I’ve sent you the login details. Thanks!
Cheers
I was finally able to replicate the issue! It seems to manifest specifically in Firefox for Windows.
Basically there was a race condition between the post form submit and some AJAX calls. I’ve just pushed a minor update (v0.4.1) that should hopefully fix it. Please give it a try and let me know.
Hi Thomas,
Good to hear that you were finally able to see the issue. Thanks for that, I have updated the plugin to v0.4.1 but unfortunately the issue still persists.
In the meantime I will use Chrome instead.
Cheers π
Hi Rocky, could you try clearing your browser cache?
Also, what version of Firefox are you on? For the record, it’s working for me on Firefox 43 on Win 8.1.
Hi Thomas,
Great news it’s working now!! good stuff thanks for fixing that so quickly!
Oh fyi the table of contents block does not auto populate but that’s a different issue so i’ll mark this one as resolved π
Thank you!
Cheers,
WiroFantastic, glad it’s working properly now. Thanks for all your help solving this mystery.
I’ll mark the thread resolved. If you’re happy with Snowball plugin, we’d be grateful if you gave it rating!
By the way, Table of Contents block doesn’t automatically list every other block (which may not be desirable). Instead, it builds a table of contents based on all of the HTML IDs used in the article. You can give IDs within text or HTML blocks, as well as other fields like captions. I’ll add an explanation about this in the FAQ.
Cheers,
Tom
