• I have three sites using this SES plugin. On all three, I have the “Return Path” field entered with a valid email address of the same domain for this email setup. I have SPF/DKIM setup for all of my domains, but none of the emails being sent by this plugin are SPF aligned.

When I analyze the headers of the test email, the Return Path is 01000197c0fb98c0-9b5e5229-9b33-4635-8142-ec1f140de2b5-000000@amazonses.com, instead of the email address I entered on the first setup tab.

This is causing SPF alignment to fail.

In the help text, it seems to suggest that the email address I enter here should be a verified email address. Well, I didn’t verify any individual email addresses, I verified the domain. Despite Amazon showing my domain as verified, the plugin still shows I have no verified email addresses. Could this be the cause for the Return Path not being honored?

    Hi @itim314!

WP Offload SES Support Team here. Thanks for reaching out with your query! We would be happy to assist.

“Despite Amazon showing my domain as verified, the plugin still shows I have no verified email addresses.”

Could you please check the Settings > Verified Senders tab in the plugin and confirm whether your verified domain is listed there? This section should display both verified domains and email addresses.

If it’s not appearing, please ensure your IAM user has the necessary permissions. We recommend either attaching the AmazonSESFullAccess policy or at least the required SES actions listed in our documentation:

To confirm, does the email address you’re using for the Return Path have its own SPF record and corresponding MX record set up? Amazon SES requires both in order to use your domain as the MAIL FROM domain (which is implicitly set by setting Return-Path). If those records aren’t configured, SES will automatically fall back to using amazonses.com as the default MAIL FROM domain.

If you need help setting this up, feel free to reach out to AWS support directly or refer to their documentation for more information here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/ses/latest/dg/mail-from.html

Please let us know how it goes!
