Hi @thesimbalife,
The email address hasn’t been changed, so you should be able to login with your email address. If that doesn’t work, please send an email to [email protected] so we can send you a small php file to regain access again.

Yeah, it’s not even taking the email address, so I will email.
I’ve experienced this with my site as well today.
The account role of user ‘admin’ was actually ‘shop-manager’ so I thought it was maybe that.
It seems that maybe it wasn’t that?
I’m on litespeed / php 7.4 / wp 6.1 and when I did it, it was on 6.0.0 or 6.0.1 of the ssl plugin (as I saw the debug warning as well while I was investigating the issue)
I don’t need support, I’ve reset the password for the client, but just thought I would let you know it wasn’t a one off for Chad.

Hello everyone, I just chatted with Rogier and Aert about the same issue. I thought I was the only one, but when I read Chad and rtpharry, I think I encountered the same issue in the same way. I followed the instructions give by Rogier by deactivating the plugin on the FTP and deleting from the .htaccess file all the parts except the Wp part. After that I accessed again the admin dashboard, but when I reactivated Really Simple SSL, the same issue occurred. So that I am again in the same situation as Chad, unfortunately.
I too have the same problem, I could not login to admin even with my email address. This is so frustrating, thank goodness I copied my site to a new domain, tried the plugin update,. Now I will never update the plugin on my actual site.
@brvnbld I’m sorry to hear you ran into issues with this. We’re working on an update where you can choose your username. If you want, we can provide you with a small file you can use to add a user, to regain access.
On all our tests we are able to login using the original email address, we haven’t found yet why this is not possible in some cases.
In my case I think I tried logging in with both the new username and the email address. I definitely couldn’t get in with the username.
It wasn’t my main admin account, so I just force updated the password in the admin panel to what the password was supposed to be, and then it worked after that.
Same issue here. I checked rename admin in hardening settings and I am not able to login anymore. Not with the new nor the old one. Can you please help me with this?
Had the same problem. Used cpanel to access the database. In the usermeta table I changed the nickname to what I want my non-admin username to be. In the users table I changed the user_login and user_nicename to the same as what I set the nickname to. I use WordFence so it blocked me when I previously tried to sign in using an unrecognized username. I did a request to unlock and then before trying to sign in, used the “Lost your password” link and reset the password. Worked like a charm.
