I just checked it in WP 4.8, on 2 WP installs, and it’s working as expected. Can you test it on a fresh WP install?
I guess something else is messing up (another plugin conflict, etc.).

I tested it on 2 WP installs (4.8.1) with and without HTTPS, it does work properly. Can you please test it on a fresh WP install and tell me?
