Posts keep draft date instead of using published date

    We have noticed some of our posts are holding on to the draft date after we hit published instead of switching to the published date. We had one post submitted as draft on July 2, 2018, it was edited, then published on July 18, 2018 but held onto the July 2, 2018 date making the post drop down the list a ways.

    All our plugins and WordPress are updated. We are using WordPress version 4.9.7.
    We are running PHP 7 on our server.

    How can I fix this issue?

    Only some draft posts do this? Intermittent problems are extremely difficult to debug unless you can find a reliable way to cause the error to occur. Are there any conditions to replicate and sequence to be followed that reliably causes the problem?
