It’s almost a week and still no update for this issue.
This error generates a lot of sleeping mysql connections leads to error 503.

This error is a PHP notice, it means that is just a notification for developers and it does not causes any issue on your install in any way
You viewed this error because you have enabled a low level error reporting, which is fine for development but not for production sites
The 503 error you are experiencing comes from critical errors that are happening on your site, but not for this notice
We will fix this notice on the next update, but since is only a notice and not a real error, there is no need to fix it quickly

I know it is the cause of 503, every time my users completing an steps and achievement and logs it that notice appears on my debug log.
I have an active site with up to 100 users currently online triggering and completing achievements, 2 steps for 1 achievement every 3 mins, generating logs for about 300,000-400,000 a day.
I’m thinking maybe gamipress is not recommended for high traffic sites.

I’m sorry but a PHP notice is not a cause of a 503 error, as I let you know, a PHP notice is just as a notice for developers, but if does not causes issues in any way, for that I recommended you to investigate from where this 503 error comes with your hosting provider
You are seeing it because you have your server configured as a development environment which is NOT recommended if your site is live and in production
Please, contact with your hosting provider to stop logging PHP notices and only log PHP errors, because storing PHP notices will overload your server logs and also to meet what is causing this 503 error
