    I’m trying to use Firelight Free to open PDFs in a lightbox on a page on my site. The lightboxes open (V2 as a very small lightbox, the other versions in full sized lightboxes), but the PDFs do not load. The PDF links themselves will load the PDF, either with Firelight network-disabled or by clicking the link that appears by itself in the lightbox. I’ve been testing in Chrome.

    I have a multi-site WordPress installation (v 6.8.3) with a bunch of sites (mostly test sites) and a main site: edwinli.com/ux. The submitted page link is to a page on a test site. all plugins are up to date, the theme on my main site is not up to date (Semplice v6.2.6 vs newest is v7).

    Troubleshooting I’ve done–all conditions with the lightboxes enabled have failed:

    • I’ve tried it with 4 different PDFs–two that I’d printed as PDFs from PPT presentations, 1 that I might have printed I’ve tried switching from my main theme (Semplice v6.2.6–newest is v7) to the first theme of my WordPress installation, Twenty Twelve. I also tried this with Ari Lightbox. All tests failed.
    • While using Twenty Twelve, I’ve network-disabled all plugins except Firelight Lightbox. Failed. I even did the same with another lightbox plugin, Ari Lightbox. Same behavior.
    • I’ve tried it with different PDF files: 2 that I printed as PDF myself from PowerPoint, 1 that I printed as PDF from Chrome, 1 that I downloaded from https://boogiebythebay.com/schedule/ . I even tried it with a PNG file, trying both Firelight Image settings of “All Images” and “All image links. all PNG tests simply loaded the image, weirdly.

    So, as far as I can tell, I’ve eliminated :

    • The files to open in the lightbox
    • The file type to open in the lightbox: pdf vs png
    • The plugin used to open the lightbox
    • The theme
    • Conflicting plugins

    What could be left? The fact that I’m on a multi-site network installation?

    @edwinliuxd – I’m actually not quite sure why this isn’t working. I downloaded one of your PDFs, uploaded it to a test site, and added a link, and it opened fine for me. But I see what you’re seeing on your site. Since my site and yours are behaving differently, I suspect it’s something to do with yours, but I’m not sure what.

    To test, can you please just create a new page using the WordPress block editor. Add a custom html block, and paste the following into it. Then replace URL-OF-THE-PDF-HERE with the url to one of your PDFs. Don’t add anything else. Then see if it opens (it does for me).

    You did a lot of troubleshooting, so I’m not entirely sure what to suggest next.
