Hello, I am needing help for a client site that I maintain which uses this plugin to process transactions. Recently, my client was advised by Woo to update their plugin to version 9.9.2, which they did. However, since that time, potential customers using the site and attempting to check out are unable to do so, they get an error: “No such payment_method_configuration: pmc_xxxxxxx”.

In the way of providing you additional information, in the general Woo Settings tab, we see the following:

BLIK is enabled – it requires store currency to be set to PLN
giropay is enabled – it requires store currency to be set to EUR
EPS is enabled – it requires store currency to be set to EUR
Bancontact is enabled – it requires store currency to be set to EUR
iDEAL is enabled – it requires store currency to be set to EUR

When my client initially contacted me regarding this issue, i went into the configuration options and noticed that a couple of payment options were enabled that i’m not sure that my client had authorized. My client only takes Google/Apple Pay and credit card payments (Klarna, etc… are not accepted). I’ve removed those. I do not know if updating the plugin automatically enabled those options or not.

My client is a domestic U.S. organization and has no need to accept EUR payments, and we are wondering if the above references to BLIK, EPS and iDEAL might be at the root cause of this issue? While researching this, i found another post on this forum with a complaint about this very issue from one month ago with reference to the above EUR paymennts, which appears to be a reported bug: https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce-gateway-stripe/issues/4711.

I do not know if this bug is at the root of our issue, but we do know that upon that advice that Woocommerce gave my client to update this plugin to version 9.9.2, this problem has suddenly appeared. They upgraded recently and have since upgraded to version 10.0.1, hoping that it would be fixed, but the errors continue.

Can you please provide us with guidance in how to resolve this issue? At present, my client cannot accept payments thru their website, which is obviously a showstopper for them.

OK, thank you for letting me know. Can you recommend any workarounds for my client? As of now, their site is completely unable to accept/process payments. Do you have customers using your plugin that have been unable to process payments for a month now? I would assume that you’ve been able to provide some sort of workaround for/to them. Thank you for any advice you can offer.

    Hi there,

Sorry for the trouble and confusion. The bug my colleague mentioned is related to some payment methods being automatically enabled, but the issue you’re facing — being unable to receive payments — seems to be different. We’d like to investigate this further.

To assist you better, could you please downgrade to version 9.9.2 and then go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments → Stripe → Manage?
Once there, check if you see a Re-authenticate button. If you do, please re-authenticate your connection. If not, try reconnecting your Stripe account manually and see if that helps resolve the issue.

If you still face the same issue, could you please share the following details:

    • System Status Report which you can find via WooCommerce > Status
    • Fatal error logs (if any) under WooCommerce > Status > Logs.

Please use https://pastebin.com/ or https://gist.github.com/ and share a link to that paste in reply here. Once we have more information, we’ll be able to assist you further.

Hi, sorry just saw your reply, i can do that. Could you please point me to the place where i would get the 9.9.2 version of your plugin? I’ll get this done for us.

    Hi @jlanpheer,

You can downgrade the WooCommerce Stripe Payment Gateway plugin using the WP Rollback plugin, which you can install from https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-rollback/, or by downloading version 9.9.2 directly from https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-gateway-stripe/advanced/ and installing it manually on your site.

It’s best practice to take a full site backup before downgrading so that you can easily restore your site if anything unexpected occurs during the process.

Once you’ve completed the downgrade, please check if the payment configuration error still appears and let us know the result so we can continue assisting you further. Let’s see how it goes!

Thanks for your reply and instruction. We will do this in the morning and report back.

Here’s an update. As instructed, we did downgrade the plugin to version 9.9.2 and re-authenticated our Stripe account and that DOES appear to have fixed the problem. So, thank you for that instruction.

My client told me that they upgraded because they got a specific instruction from you to upgrade. Having downgraded, has my client lost some functionality or perhaps some security protections? Please advise on how we should proceed going forward.

Thanks so much for the help so far!

    Hi @jlanpheer,

Thank you for the update and for taking the time to downgrade and re‑authenticate. I’m glad to hear that resolved the immediate payment configuration error for your client. I completely understand your concern about whether downgrading means losing functionality or security protections.

    To clarify:

    • The main difference is that you’re now running on a stable version (9.9.2) that doesn’t include the newer changes introduced in 10.2.0. Those changes were intended to expand payment method support, but since they introduced the bug you encountered, staying on 9.9.2 avoids that risk.
    • The plugin team does backport critical security fixes when needed, so you shouldn’t be exposed to vulnerabilities by running 9.9.2. That said, it’s always best practice to keep a close eye on release notes for any security advisories.

To proceed going forward, I recommend the following:

    • Keep an eye on new plugin releases (10.2.0) and update when possible to ensure you have the latest security and feature enhancements.
    • Before updating the plugin on your live site, test new versions in a staging or development environment to ensure compatibility and avoid disruptions.
    • If an update causes problems, please reach out to us with details so we can help troubleshoot or provide workarounds while we work towards a fix in the next release.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need anything else.
