• I have had trouble with the WordPress password-protect feature on a page. My client complained of the password not working, so I suggested he clear the cache and try again (that didn’t work). I had the same intermittent issue. It would not work on Chrome, but would work on Edge, then it stopped working on Edge, but would work on Incognito Chrome. I contacted OceanWP support, just because they’re always helpful. They had the same issue of intermittent working/not working. I’m updated with the latest version of everything. I’m using Elementor as an editor and don’t have many plugins installed. I’m using Lightspeed Cache and have cleared it from the site. I also put that page on the “exclude” list for Lightspeed caching. That worked for me once. But still isn’t working for my client.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

What exactly happens when the password doesn’t work? Do you see an error message, and if so, what does it say? Or does nothing happen and it just looks like the page is reloading?

I would also recommend disabling LiteSpeed Cache to rule that out as the cause.

When I type in the password, absolutely nothing happens. No error, no spinning, just sits there.

I will disable Lightspeed and have them try again.

I have now tested this in several browsers and always see a loading bar and then a message saying that the password is invalid (which is correct). Therefore, I strongly suspect that it has something to do with either the Litespeed cache or a local tool on the affected user’s computer. Perhaps they have an add-on in their browser for saving passwords, which is causing interference here. One tip would be to try testing it in a private browser window. Add-ons like that aren’t active there.

I checked it in my system the page is getting reloaded and it is working fine as it is generating the error message for wrong password.

@threadi Several of us, including my theme support people are having the same intermittent issue, all using different browsers with different set-ups. I did notice that there may be a conflict with LastPass, so I turned that off on my system. I suspect Lightspeed cache, however the problem seems to have gone away after I put that page as “don’t cache” within Lightspeed. However, now the page just loads for my clients without asking for a password, which I now suspect is their browser cache from their last attempt to enter the password.

Yes, they may still have the LiteSpeed cache in your browser cache, which is why they see the page this way. Once the cache times out, they should see the password again. Alternatively, they can use a private browser window.

I’ve tried everything that most people have suggested, thank you. The only thing I haven’t done is deactivate Lightspeed cache plugin, and try the page again. There are only two people in the company who need access to that page, and both have cleared their cache and tried incognito windows (it has worked intermittently for them too). I have also let them know that password keepers like “LastPass” can interfere. I will try the no-cache header that someone suggested, that should work, given what we’ve uncovered. I really appreciate the input, it has helped tremendously.
