• I am an old WordPress user, and I was one of the first Arab users who tried to localize its control panel around 2009. Due to various circumstances, I distanced myself from the internet and website development. When I returned, I found that the WordPress ecosystem had moved away from the concept of open-source software. Every step within WordPress now comes with a “Pro” label, and you have to pay for usage. Even though WordPress is still an open-source program, if you want to use it today, you have to pay for many essential plugins. Is this the only path for WordPress now?

  • Everything on WordPress.ORG is free. Some themes and plugins have pro versions, but they are purely optional. The only things that you need to pay for are a domain name and hosting for the site, and how you get those is up to your own budget, and neither of those is available through the .org site.

Where are you seeing things that *must* be paid for?
